Hi all,
I recently purchased a 2003 r1150r that has what I believe to be a tinted BMW sport windshield. The previous owner had a flame decal put on it that I'm not crazy about. I've taken the decal off but still can see the footprint of the decal. I've taken off any of the residue but the outline of the decal is still there. It looks to me that where there was no sticker has become weathered. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the decal footprint out of the windshield and get it to its original (or as close to original) look as I can?

I have the same OEM tinted windshield that over the years has weathered so badly (in the Florida sun) that you can hardly see through it. It sounds like the decal prevented part of yours from weathering and, not knowing how to restore the windshield to original condition, may mean you'll have to wait until the protected part under the removed decal weathers to match!

You could try the compound they use to clear up foggy headlight covers/lens on cars or maybe a finishing compound would be mildly abrasive enough.

Thanks for the feedback. While I was waiting for my post to be reviewed by the moderators, since I'm a first time poster, I stopped at a Walmart to grab some headlight restorer. I checked the specs on a few different brands. So I grabbed the one that said it was safe on motorcycle windshields and helmet visors. I used McGuire's PlastX. So after doing 2 rounds of applying the product it made a huge difference in the overall condition of the windscreen. The flame decal is not completely gone but is a lot less noticeable. When I have time I may try a couple more rounds of the product. Thanks again for the help.

I would have suggested compound also. even regular rubbing compound would do. or light polish if not too bad. Mine had the tinted sport shield, and had a big sticker on it. Used rubbing compound and my polisher, just keep it wet with water, and little pressure.

I do headlights all the time that way.

AutoZone sells a "kit" for polishing headlight covers. It contains a foam backing mounted on a drill spindle, and about 4 different grades of "extra fine grit, extra extra fine grit, super extra fine grit" plus a polishing compound for plastic. I have used this kit on all of the plastic parts on my bike. The results are quite amazing. I really recommend this kit. I cannot remember the name, but I am fairly certain I found it in the paint section.
