Old BMW bits..

I was at a hill climb at the weekend and I ran into one of the Perth BM club members with the friggin *immaculate* old BMW... I think it was a '63, I'll find pics and info later.
But what blew me away is we got talking and he said it was nearly like new? I queried and he said "It's only got one original bearing in it..."
Wow! I thought, I asked how he went getting parts and he replied, "usually in a week or so, from Germany"
I mean wow! he said you can get virtually anything still from BMW for your older models...
Was impressed..

That's really good to know because, seeing how my goal is to ride it forever, I'll be needing parts for my R in 15-20 years.
BMW Mobile Tradition

I get my 1956 R50 serviced at the same dealer where I bought my R1150R. There is an arm of the BMW company called "Mobile Tradition" that contracts the manufacture of parts for the old cars and bikes. Last year I got OEM saddlebags and a new magneto coil for it. Most, but not all of the major mechanical and cosmetic parts are available by part number from any BMW dealer.
Think about it: the R50 will be 50 years old next year and you can still get parts and service through the dealer network. You've got to love a company that provides that level of support for their obsolete products.

Funny thing is I've been reading in other forums about dealers who won't touch product over 10 years old! BMW's impressive for that at least...

Huh. Harley has that beat, they'll still sell you an entire obsolete bike!
(Sorry, couldn't resist, I love 'em all including Harleys).
Damn, Sam...
