Is there any way to safely increase the exhaust tone my stock R1150R makes, to my way of thinking, this is a safety issue.

Yes - by replacing the cat with a Y-pipe and replacing the stock exhaust with either an aftermarket can or with a complete system. I do not agree that louder bikes are safer, but changing your exhaust system has the benefit of improving your performance.

There are many after-market exhaust options and many of the distinguished gents on this board who have experience with them will chime in and give you some great information, I'm sure. In my opinion, the Two Brothers exhaut sounds like a series of wet farts. Remus and Staintune wil give you a more conspicuous exhaut note.

My Remus with Y-pipe sounds like a series of dry farts.
But much better than the Singer sewing machine stock sound.
You can make a Boxer loud but it's damn near impossible to make them sound good.

Loud pipes a safety issue?

Been listening to posers too much have you? Got empirical evidence to share with us?

Having ridden in Big Bend with Dallara, and the Hoon, the only time you hear the Y pipes and Remus was for the split second they passed you at warp speed and in the party zone. At times - riding behind them at near warp speed while they were trying their roll-on comparisons between the 50r and the 1200st - nothing to talk about - except getting injured by flying rocks from their rear wheels - now that got my attention and a blue finger nail. Riding behind the Road King with load pipes there too - noisy when he was on the throttle trying to save the ride out of a corner and I was nearly up them.

Safe or not, if you take off the muffler and put one of those little tailpipe ends on the short pipe, you should have some improvement in the NOISE department.

Based on the above statements, I would go for the Two Brothers...in my experience the 'wet fart' always gets and maintains attention better than the 'dry fart'.

The original post inferred that the stock exhaust is the most terrible of all farts - the dreaded SBD - silent but deadly!!

Anything's better than the "ffffft-ffffft-ffffft-ffffft-ffffft-fffffft-whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir-whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir-whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir" sound they make stock!

I too prefer the 'dry fart', but the safty issue, I assume, is for being noticed by other motorists. In my opinion most people will give a 'wet fart' sound more space than a 'dry fart sound'. Sure it may be a small difference between the two, but every little bit counts!

Seriously, I prefer quiet bikes and I don't think louder is any safer. But that is just my opinion. And I do like the way some loud bikes sound. Some of them are music to my ears!
A good friend of mine has the 'wet fart' pipe on his GS Adventure. It doesn't seem too loud to me.

A fart with lumps is the worse sort, very embarising It happens often in a 100 mph sweeper while running a little wide.

What happens if our bike gets too close to a naked flame...is it possable to light one up???...

I think you would have the best chance with the 'dry fart'. I believe the 'wet fart' and the 'fart with lumps' are too 'rich' for ignition.

I would hazard a guess that the dry one would implode and the wet one explode -with bits flying about!!

Sorry I missed that Bob, you are right. I believe the SBD and the dry fart are of the same family.
