Hi to all.

I am new here and I need your help please...

I am about to buy a BMW R1100R which is made in 1999 and has 94.000km (aprrox. 58024 miles).

My problem is about the milage on it. Is 94000km(58024miles) ok or not? How long, I could ride without some repairs?

And what is the maximum life of the engine for R1100R?

Also what about the riding characteristics?

I am asking because of that: this will be the last motorcycle for me for along time period.

I love mine, runs smooth, and very easy to ride once you get the hang of it I would say if it has had good maintanace it should be a good bike for you.

I mean that this motorcycle will be the last one for me. I think that I will buy and do not want to sell it out. I ride Suzuki TL 1000 S, Suzuki GN 125, and Piaggio X8 200 cc scooter.

You mean that, it is ok. for long term riders.

If the engine has been properly serviced, it should last for 150-200,000 miles. Engines are rarely a problem on BMW twins.

One potential problem is the transmission input shaft and clutch. Many have not had a problem but some have and the ones that had problems were not cheap to fix.

The other achilles heel has been the final drive.

The old adage, "you pays your money and you takes your chances" applies to any used motorcycle.

I wouldn't let the mileage scare you. All it means is that somebody has been out enjoying it on a regular basis. If it appears to be well kept, better yet if it has good maintenance records, it'll probably serve you well.

Are you buying it from a dealer? Has it been gone over by a competent BMW motorcycle mechanic? A pre-buy inspection would be a good idea, and should rule out major shortcomings.

Of course, you made no mention of price. You might be getting a steal or a screwing, or something in between.

I love my '99 R1100RA. I just came in from riding it. Mine has just over 50,000 miles and it has treated me just fine. No major surprises, just routine maintenance at 6,000 mile intervals. I bought mine from a dealer who took it in trade; after talking to the person who traded it in, I felt very confident that I was getting a good bike.

You probably want to do at least a 6,000 mile (10,000 km?) service on it when you buy it unless there is evidence that the maintenance is up to date.

I think that I am going to buy it after a pre-buying inspection. But I am still frigtened.

I am planning to change its oil and oil filter for every 3500-4500 km approx. 3900 miles to feel my self in garantee.

that's not alot of mileage. but, it all depends on where the miles were accrued. were they in city traffic or open highway?
