You hop on the R, it's all nice and warmed up. turn here, turn there, sweeper here, accelerate hard there....

do any of you notice how you're not breathing? i had to dry off the bike after washing the brightwork and i took her out at 4pm, sun's setting, and it was about 40 degrees. man was it a great 12 miles!

oh, and to keep this R related...I was using BarKeepers Friend for the brightwork. anybody else use this too?

I think this post should go in the "Breathing" forum.

I too went for a ride yesterday. But I DID breathe, and enjoyed the 55+ temps very much. I did find out some more interesting info about the throttle cables though.

On Friday..or whenever that was...when I adjusted the TB cables before another synch. (Remember I had found the cables too tight at the TBs) Well, anyway, I went through the typical startup with the fast idle switch routine and noticed the fast-idle did not work so well. It was way too loose! After the bike warmed up it ran fine but when I got home I had to do a little tightening again up at the throttle and fast-idle end of the cables. And then, of course, another TB synch!

What I discovered by this: That if you loosen the cables at the TBs, they will be loose at the throttle grip ends. doh!!...

First big ride every season (after limited commutes in the off-season) I both tense my shoulders and hold my breath. Have to relearn relaxing and letting the bike go.

Yes,

if the throttle cables are too loose the fast idle leaver will not work.

I love to ride when it is from 35 to 60 degree F, even better if the sun is out.

Yes, because I live in a college town with 25,000 drivers aged 18 - 23

We've had a spate of nice weather the first half of this month in Virginia. So riding's been surprisingly good.

My problem is I concentrate so intently when I'm riding twisties that I sometimes forget to blink. As a contact lens wearer, it's cost me quite a few lost contacts! I use the disposables and always carry extras, but the haggle alone will eventually lead me down the LASIK path.

Juz curious .. how much is LASIK in the States? Down here it is something like US$2000 both eyes.

Prices I've seen for the procedure vary based on the equipment and the doctor, but going rates seem to be between $2K - $4K. I have seen a few cheaper specials advertised, but I don't know that I'd be willing to risk my sight for the lowest price... reputation I think is worth paying a little more for in this case.

I agree, eye surgery is not time to bargain hunt! My eye doctor/surgeon discussed Lasik with me last visit, although mostly for my kids when they get older. My contacts are amazingly trouble free, so I ain't interested in cutting my eyes yet. He says many of the bargain rates, especially around bigger markets, are done with older machines, available when another doctor has upgraded. The newer machines and techniques have a higher success rate and smaller rate of problems.
