K1200S as a tourer?

I'm ready to make a move from 4 years of happiness on my Atlanta Blue R. I just need a change and some wind protection. I was waiting for the K1200GT thinking it would be the perfect tourer. Now that it is out (at least in pictures) I am very disappointed with the boxy looks and bleak colors. Furthermore, the price at over 20K++ fullly equipped is way above the competition. So my question is, why not take a K1200S and add handlebar risers and a larger screen and even a few addittional accessories for less that the cost of the GT? The bike will look faster and be priced less than a comparably equipped GT. What am I missing? What accounts for the price difference?

I just got a ride on a S with MV bar risers. I'm in love. I think many miles could be covered comfortably on that bike. Maybe add a touring wind screen.

In 2000 I weighed 350 now I weigh 290. Now I kinda sorta fit on the sport bikes. Thanks for noticing...

Looks great. So why pay the $3000 premium for a GT with a tuned down engine? One could easilt add a larger shield, barbacks, bags and a bunch of other comform accesories for about that. Is there something I am missing that is on the GT?

Since I haven't witnessed a live GT, I would guess the GT has a better saddle, even more element protection, and probably a little better ergos. There are already peg lowering kits, bar risers, and touring wind screens available for the S, so I think the S could be made into a comfy sport tourer. I am sold on the MV risers, but some of the superbike bar kits look cool also. Very adjustable bar example...

IMHO the GT has completely different engine mapping, with more low down grunt. you wouldn't want to scream the hell out of your tour with something revving all the time, you need something more relaxed probably ... and k1200s is NEVER going to make a tourer. Sports tourer - probably a cracking one ...
I will stick with my Rockster and all the oilheads for now - TA
Tried k1200r - that thing is EVIL with capital E.
The oilheads ride themselves, you only have to tell them where to go - these inline fours have a mind of their own
