Where can I find a decent deal on system cases?

I'm making a L-O-N-G trip in a few months, and I am simply not willing to pay $500+ for system cases. I think those prices are criminal! You guys/gals have any idea where I can get something to carry some of my stuff? (Underwear, socks, jeans, toothbrush. Not much else)
Thanks.

BMW bags are very good investment

MartyWadd look at the overall picture and not the short term investment. System bags will fit your bike perfectly never scratching the finish and always being able to remove at a moments notice. Second they are lockable. No one can reasonably get into them or yank them off. Third if you're like most BMW owners you don't switch bikes evry year or two so the system bags are your best bet in the long haul. Look for the bags on ebay. One of our shops Roman Cycle usually has a set or two of nice used bags why not give Richard Roman a call and see if he has a pair and what kind of deal you can get. His number is 330-270-2697. I thought the same thing. I was determined to get some on ebay, which I finally did. Then I needed the railmounts and the bridge thingy. All in all I spent about $600 piecing it together. In retrospect I would have rather gotten the cases new, as mine have the painted finish and I would have liked the matte look.

I agree with the others, once you see these cases you know why they are not cheap (but, yes they're a bit overpriced). They snap on snug, are immovable, lock, and you don't know they are there when they are on. They don't slide around or mess up your bike--in fact they add to the look. Plus you can actually leave stuff in them when you are away from the bike and not worry.

The good think is that my cases have done service on 3 differant bikes. But the realy good thing is that they came with one of the bikes and I just held on to them when I sold the bike. So think of as an investment, some thing that can stay in the family and be past on to future generations.

System case speed

Would anyone out there with system cases on the rockster comment on top speed and handling? I am planning on this purchase this year and would like to hear some real world observations to go along with BMW's recommendations. I have, on occassion, topped the 80mph mark  and certainly expect that it might happen again, any problems with the cases?

I have the system cases on my Rock and have noticed no unusual handling characteristics. I have gone up to 95 in a moderate windy day and it was all fine. I personally wouldn't sustain a speed like that with them on, because I don't like to tempt fate. But in short bursts there are no problems. The only real difference I have noticed are windy days. A sidewind tends to push on your butt a little. I love my cases they are handy dandy. But when I wanna look dangerous I pop them and the windshield off and pretend I am a BAD BOY. Then I get home and the family brings me back to reality.

Hope I helped.

The system bags are quite durable and well affixed. I rode for 1100 mi at speeds well above 80 mph (indicated), and had no problems. Some of it was through very heavy rain (yeah, I know that isn't very safe, but deadlines loomed that couldn't be avoided or extended, so there ya go).

I did the same with my first BMW -- an R1000RS (from where the bags originate) and second -- R1150RS. Never had any problems.

The prohibition is probably a legal protection thing (my guess).

I noticed that the rear end shakes a bit when you hit 100-MPH with the system case and soft top case on.

Very stable at 85+ with loaded systrem cases and camping gear piled on top. I crank the rear preload up when I load up like that.
