Just wondering about touring on the Rock. I'm headed to the west coast in a few weeks and wondering what kind of experience everyone has on this bike....pros?...cons? I don't suppose it matters a whole lot.....because I'm going regardless....just curious I suppose! I've got luggage, a tank bag, and a bag to fit on the back (not a true "tail bag" but it will work) and will bolt on my Parabellum screen (don't use it in town). I hope to hit many national parks. Anyway.....any input?

I just use the System Cases and the BMW tail bag. I don't need much clothings so those three boxes are plenty big enough for me. I do wish that BMW had put out a bigger plastic tail case instead of the soft tail bag.

I don't even bother with the wind screen.

If you enjoy riding you will have a great time. Had loads of bikes, the boxers terific for touring.. got the casses and a top box. tiny screen. GPS. All set up, have to do it all again in the summer,what a shame how will I cope????? Have FUN RR

I've found the Rockster a very capable tourer. I was able to strap on all the luggage I would need. It negotiates well twisties, cities, and long dull stretches. That is perhaps my favorite thing about this bike, its versatility. Enjoy your trip

I have been out on my rock and had the worst of times and the best of times. the worst was on the bike stock. My butt was so sore I rode from NJ to Savannah lying on the tank.

then I switched out the bars for roadster bars, lowered the pegs and best of all got a Sargents seat, and now I'm set. Road out to St Louis last year for a baseball game and it was just great. Flew up to Maine (600 miles in a day) no problem; Best of all, took the Sky Line Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway top to bottom.

So with me, once I made those adjustments I can go anywhere. In fact, this year I am headed to AZ.

Just so you know where I'm coming from, I'm 58, 5'10" and weigh in at 220. So I'm no spring chicken, but like I said, I love this bike. Oh yea, and I have been a Harley guy for the last 15 years.

Did a 4400 mile trip on my Rockster last year. All I added was the Wunderlich Windscreen (it broke my heart adding the windscreen to the bike, but was definitely worth it), a Sargent seat, BMW System Cases and a Marsee tank bag. I also used the Helen2Wheels bag. This attaches to the rear seat and the contents remained dry, even riding in heavy rain for hours.

I did not change the bars ot the bar height and did not lower the pegs for the trip.

When I go on a similar trip again this year I will use the same mods. I found it very comfortable for at leat 400 mile days.

Unless you're extremely tall there is really no need to lower the pegs for comfort. The cylinders make great highway pegs.
