Sidecar Rig

I'm interested in trying out a hack system and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them. I am mostly interesting in a more "safe" ride since I am recovering from a crash, and ease of handling and ability to handle long distances on them.

Thanks

I tried riding a sidecar rig once (and a 3-wheeled ATV); don't let the single front wheel fool ya. It is not a bicycle or motorcycle and your instinct for countersteering goes out the window. You wanna veer left, crank the front wheel to the left... and vice-versa. Also something about accentuating your body english to assist in the turns.

The ATV I rode was on a small dirt path and I was hugging too closely to the right shoulder. The berm was about a 6" dropoff, and to move away from the edge, I instictively tried leaning to my left while pointing the wheel to the right. I ended up going right... off the path!

The handling of sidecar rigs is different enough that in my state, (WA) they require a separate licence endorsement.

Just because it has three wheels don't be fooled into thinking it's easy to handle. For sure you will not fall over at trafic lights, but as for going round corners, the whole brake to turn left, acelerate to turn right is a big thing to learn. Here is a machine which is constant inbalance.
