I am looking at purchasing a lift for my 1150r. But it appears as though the catalytic converter would get in the way or be damaged. Does anyone have insight/experience with this. Thanks for your input...

Unless there is an adaptor for your bike then a bike lift that takes both tires off the ground is out out of the question. generaly the only time you need that is for tire maintance. They have bike lifts that you roll the bike up on to get the engine at a better height for maintenance. Maybe $200 or something.
If you just need to take the tires off, a rear stand and front stand will work.

i have the craftsman (sears) motorcycle/atv jack. about 100 bucks i think. the two rubber skids fit nicely at the front motor bracket thing and at the centerstand pivots. no damage, no problem.
you can not get the jack underneath while the bike is on its centerstand. i have done it myself several times, but it would be easier and quicker with a buddy, one to hold the bike and one to position the jack underneath and up she goes. this is not useful for changing the oil or exhaust under the motor. it is great for wheels, brakes, valve adjustments, and moving bike around in a closed space.
here i found a review
