Hey gang,

I have been having thoughts of getting a F650GS Dakar. I would love to hear from any of R1150R owners that also are F650GS Dakar owners. I have not figured out yet if I would get one as a second bike or if I would trade in the R1150R for it. Thanks for any feedback.

Don't have a Dakar but I do have an '03 F650 CS. very nice little bike. Very light and fun to ride.

Look in on http://www.advrider.com and ask about the Dakar. Plenty of owners there I expect.

Check...

...www.f650.com. But check the FAQ before posting any questions about the bike. There is a pretty rude element on that discussion board that does not welcome newbie questions.

BTW, I have an F650GS, the more civilized different brother to the Dakar. I like it a lot. What do you want to know about it? I

t is a great bike for everything but riding two up in my opinion. Many others feel you need abigger bike to travel long distances, but I've ridden mine on several 3 thousand mile trips. You can go more places on the Dakar than on the R, but if gravel roads are the worst terrain you'll ride, you can use the R for that.

Coincidentally I plan onowing those two bikes. I'm looking to buy an 04 R bike and I plan to keep the 650GS. I'd sell or trade in my 04 1150GS before I got rid of my 650GS.

I have a '05 650GS in addition to my '04 R1150R... only way I could afford both was to get the R as an ex-loaner and the GS as an ex-off road school bike. Whilst the ex-ORS GS is pretty battered up from it's season it's a bargain as a low milage used bike that takes care of my commuting no matter how bad the weather (this was after losing control of my R in a freak, sudden storm and causing £800+ of damage). The GS is so economical and I spent a little bit of money on crash bars and aux lights for winter and ride it care free. It's a lot quicker than you'd think... a friend on a FZ6 really struggled to stay with me on a 'spirited' twisty ride once. The R is best at everything else... long ride outs, trips to concerts or festivals with luggage and carrying shopping home!! I wouldn't trade my R for a 650GS... I would only consider trading the R for one of the new 800s.

I have a F650GS (2001, ABS). I am selling it and seriously considering an R1150R or R1150RS. Most of my riding was touring, with a lot of New York and New England back roads. The F650 is really fun, but for the touring type of sport riding the R1150R is better for me. Then again, if you can afford to keep two.... the 650 is a lot of fun!

I own a '03 F650GS and a '03 R1150R. I like them both for different reasons. If I'm doing any dirt road riding, I prefer the 650. If I'm mostly on the slab or any real long distance riding I prefer the R. The 650 will run fine on the slab; I just think the R is more comfortable. If I could only own one and I wanted to ride on dirt roads, I would opt for the 650. It's a great all round ride.
