6000 mile service ends up costing me $3000.00!!!!!

I went in to get my 6000 mile service done on my RR and I ended up spending a total of almost $3000.00 (including tax, title and license and a new hat). I still have the RR (OF COURSE), but added another bike today.
The dealer had just bought this on a trade in and sold it to me for what he gave the guy for it. I figured I'd buy it, ride it and see how I like a bike with 140 hp and then sell it a little later and get my all my money back and a little extra. My goal is to get a K1200R, but this was such a good deal (I think

) that I thought I would start with it and move my way up to the KR. Here it is, a '03 Yamaha FZ1

I'd say for $3k you came out NICE!! I'm too old to appreciate the ergonomics but the giddy up factor would be sweet!

Wow - that sounds too good to be true! I'm sure my wife would loooove me coming home with one of those after a service!
"Sure, just put it on my credit card!"

That is one of my dream bikes (I admit, I have a few), what a sweet machine.

It's been a crazy day. I had no intention on buying a bike even though I sit on the KR's everytime I go into the dealership. Getting both the RR and the FZ1 home was a logistical nightmare.
So you guys think it was a good deal? I don't know a thing about this bike except that it has 140 hp. I haven't even had a chance to check it out much or read the manuals. I just rode it home, parked it and got ready to meet friends for dinner downtown. So I need to learn a lot about it now. But you think it's a good deal, right? I guess I need to find a FZ1 forum so I can learn as much about it as I've learned about my RR, but honestly I really want the KR, so I'm just sort of using the FZ until I can get a KR.
This FZ is FAST! REALLY FAST! It just about peeled the helmet off my head when I got it up on the highway. And it is really nimble and easy to ride. The RR feels more solid though, but this is a fun bike. Did I mention it was fast? So will a KR be more fun than this FZ?
Brian, it has 19,850 miles on it. The original owner traded it in on an RT. And who is Patrick?
John, John, John: Never say "just put it on my credit card." Credit cards are dangerous. You can end up spending more than you plan with those things, you know.

I paid cash instead.

Shame, shame, shame - Pat was one of our much loved, maligned, teased, befriended, hated, admired, and fun-loving R1150R guys who regularly seemed to get tempted towards 'other' bikes and eventually went well away from the R.
That's him at the bottom of the Board categories. So famous he has his own category! I had the pleasure to correspond with him for a while, and his sense of humour and poeticism is greatly missed. A true-blue character if there ever was one. Not universally loved, but always gave as good as he got!
As for the new toy - It's a good deal if it's as nice in the flesh as it looks in the pic. You will have some fun, but be careful. The suspension will never be as forgiving as the R and it may just try to throw you off if you don't keep it tamed!
Enjoy it.

I can top that one.... I went into the local HD shop to buy a t-shirt (yeah, yeah, I know!) and walked out $6800 later with my 04 R. It was one my bigger impulse buys!

If you got an FZ1 for $3000, you got a helluva deal! The FZ has been on my short list since it first came out in 01. It's a fabulous all-around bike. It has the engine of the R1, but real world ergonomics. It's basically bullet proof and there are a ton of accessories available for it, everything from windshields to luggage racks and crash bars. You'd be hard pressed to find a better bike for the money even if you paid the $8500 they wanted for a new one. Incidentally, the FZ was "updated" this year, but the moto press universally preferred the older model. Some things just can't be improved.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO Panzerleder: It's better than that! I paid $3000.00 for a '03 FZ1, A 6000 mile BMW service (and we all know how much those can cost!), a cute new lime green girl's BMW hat, and a Motorad neck/head/bandana thingy. AND got some $2.00 off coupons to the International Motorcycle Show this weekend thrown in as well.

Thats a great deal and a great bike. When you sell it you should get at least 4 grand for it.Valve adjustments on that bike are at 26,000 miles,so your good for a while. The FZOA forum is one of the best bike forums around but Desmo one of the main moderaters hates BMWs.

A guy down the hall has that bike and loves it. He says this is the online place to be if you have a FZ1.

I am sure that is a much bigger forum than this one but we are probably nicer!
I am sure we have more characters!
Edited to add - Nice bike!

I've been reading the manual on the bike this morning and I was so happy to find out that the FZ1 has an oil sight glass too. I won't have to learn a new oil check dance now.
