Just a few notes on this thread:
The models with a lug on the cover to attach the positive jumper to the starter also have a lug for the negative cable on the engine. I believe it is on the head just below the valve cover.

Remember if jumping from a car battery DO NOT start the car!

Don't think there is a best fit for sunglasses to a particular helmet style. I would suggest riding to your local Optometrist and select several frames you like, then try them on with the helmet. Pay attention to the bend and material of the temple tips. Some slide past the helmet pads better than o...

I got the comfort temp (schoeller keptoprec) undergarment from BMW as a gift two years ago. I call them my "magic underwear". They have a phase change material on the arms, chest and front of legs. It has the property of absorbing body heat and storing it (such as when you are suiting up o...

I had a R90/6 back when it was new. Many bikes in between. Current ride is '02 nonABS. I think if you are looking for reliable transportation, go for it. The newer bike will almost always be better, especially in the areas you mentioned were weak in the airhead (electrics, suspension). Working on an...

Since you asked, five years. Mine's a 2002 nonABS. I just replaced the original battery prior to a trip to Florida in Oct. No problems with the original, just wanted to be sure. It stays plugged into the tender while at home in the garage. Ditto on the optima pc680. Don't have to pull the tank to ad...

Headlight bulb out indicator

I learned something new :!:. I lurk frequently and don't recall seing this. My High beam indicator was lit with low intensity riding home Friday and sure enough, both  headlight bulbs were out and only the "parking" lamp was lit. Fortunately it was daylight on a short commute and I h...

Once you get the BMW filter off, you may want to try the K&N oil filters. Best feature is the 17mm nut on the bottom for easy removal. Favorably reviewed in the oil filters exposed article (buried in the archives of IBMW riders forum, I think).

I thought mine was out, too. But when I filled up, turns out the trip meter had been turned, prolly one of the kids messin. I wasn't out of gas, afterall. Anyway, hope that's the case with yours. Unless you ride around near empty a lot, can't see why the bulb would burn out sooner than say a turn si...

Front Brake Noise

Could be the (organic)pads passing over the holes in the drilled disc. My old R90/6 did this in the seventies. Sort of a staccato whir that decreased in frequency with speed. Wasn't a squeak, just an odd sound that was more pronounced with hard braking. Just a thought.
