DJ, just read the post. Thank goodness you are ok and so is the cyclist. We all try to be careful but it goes to show how these things can catch you out. The main thing is you are ok and the bike can easily be fixed. The photos suggest the damage is fairly superficial. These are very tough bikes. I ...

Iowa, the answer is ok to both of those questions. The 800 has the same bhp as our roadsters. The power delivery is smooth with no hidden surprises. It is very easy to ride and I certainly would be happy to tour on one. It is very relaxed at sixty mph. The screen keeps the wind off your chest. The e...

DJ, it's a 3 day event and open to the general public evryday, Friday to Sunday. I like the relaxed feel of the event and most exhibits are not kept behind ropes allowing you to get really close to them, including the celebrities. http://www.goodwood.co.uk/fos/ The Revival in September is a similar ...

I went my local dealers in the UK this afternoon. Base price is £8,295.00 otr. :? This is without ABS, screen, heated grips, luggage ect Add these and it is about £9,500. They are expecting delivery mid to late September. It is tempting but I prefer the look of mine still. However I kn...

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2006 (many photos!)

Once again it was the annual pilgramage to the Festival of Speed. This is one event I try not to miss every year. I decided to arrive early to miss the crowds and it was worth getting up at 5:30am as I managed to see many bikes and cars without the usual hustle. I took plenty of photos and a selecti...

OK, truth is no one offered to take pictures and it didn't cross my mind....would have been good though....for blackmail if nothing else!

My F800ST ride (inspired by DJ's Griso ride!)

It's been a long time since a sent a post. Many reasons really, job, family ect. I have coined a new phrase which sums up my situation: "Life gets in the way of life" However, I know I have been woefully lacking in this area and I must make amends. I come onto the board most days and lucki...

I had the same problem a few days ago. My dealer has serviced this bike 3 times from new and they always overfill the oil. They charge me for 4 litres evrytime and I have pointed this out re the overcharge on the bill but their answer is ....it's correct because that is what they put in it! They use...

Steve, I would check a few other possible causes first that could stop the ABS system not to activate. I had the same problem with a 1998 R1100R. The fault was traced to the air gap between the ABS sensor and the ring on the front wheel being too wide. This was a zero cost fix as all I had to do was...

DJ, it will be a very sad day if you leave. I have found your posts extremely entertaining, which are written with feeling and spirit that only other bikers can relate to. Hotzuk, This is simple "plug and play" work no cutting or splicing required! 1. unplug the bikes wiring loom from the back of the original power socket. Then looking at the photo of the cable for reference... 2. Plug the bikes wiring loom connector into the left hand connector of the new c...

Hotzuk, I ran an extra power cable off the back of the power socket next to the starter motor to the top of the airbox so that I could route power to the tankbag (using Powerlet products) for mobile phone charging ect. Powerlet have plenty of BMW standard sockets and mounts (for handlebars ect): htt...

Michael, great shots. You certainly captured the Autumn day in Nappa Valley. Is that a BMW topcase? I would be interested in how it was mounted to the rack. Any chance of a few photos? DJ, yes I got the low tension sparkplug wires sorted. The official fix is to cut them where the earth wire connects to the cylinder head. The new wire and connector is then soldered to the original wires in the loom. The bad news is it cost £190 to repair!!!!!! BMW only waived £85. Good to hav...
