Re: Headlight net on r1200r 2011
Jess - It seems you missed the point or just want to be confrontational. I'm just stating the obvious.. Not trying to be confrontational, just pointing out something that's obvious to me , even if the point is missed by hundreds or thousands or even millions of forum denizens: the lifeblood of a fo...

Re: Out of gas...
First, it is my understanding that a gas gauge on a motorcycle is, at best, an estimate. If the amount of fuel is not precisely known, how precise can the calculated MPG be. As mentioned above, it's not dependent on the fuel strip to determine MPG. The OBC is almost certainly measuring the injector...

Re: Headlight net on r1200r 2011
You'll find that most things have been gone over in the past. Use the search function on ' mirrors ' and you'll find posts about what the people are using for mirrors. Most guys are hesitant about engaging in something that has been hashed over in the past. Well, might as well shut down the forum, ...

The F800GS mirrors (and the identical Aprilia Tuono mirrors) fit the R1200R nicely, and change the look for the better (IMO). The Rizoma ones are nice as well.davidemario wrote:I want to change the rear mirrors also, maybe with a Rizoma ones.

Re: OBC
Can someone describe how to access the current MPG? I've only ever seen the average MPG (I reset at every fuel fill). I even re-read the OM but there no mention there. Mine is a 2010. For models up to 2010, you can reset the average MPG by holding down the Info button. The "fresh" number ...

Re: Why do you love your R1200R?
In addition to my enormous fleet of scooters (I'm serious -- I have a really bad scooter problem) I previously had a Moto Guzzi Nevada 750 as my sole motorcycle. In four years, I put a bit over 4000 miles on it. It was okay, and it had character, but I would almost always choose to ride one of my sc...

Re: OBC
As you guessed, it does tire pressure monitoring (if so equipped). I had the alert pop up yesterday, turned out there was a staple in my tire. Good system.
The miles-to-empty is great (as long as your fuel gauge is still working). I use that function alone more than all the others combined.

Re: Has anybody actually?
Outside of spinning my way out of a sand trap (and I try to stay out of them), I can't see a downside to that approach. Advice on that? Well, the ASC will effectively prevent you from popping a wheelie. But outside of that, I can't think of a reason either. And I'm not nearly daring enough to...

Re: Has anybody actually?
I did it on my 2009 w/ABS. The dealer hadn't done it before, and was a bit... not wary, exactly, but the service manager wanted to really understand the process completely before he would commit to doing what essentially amounts to a firmware upgrade on my bike. He did in fact do his research, and a...

Unintended Upgrade from Pilot Road 2 to 3
This morning on my commute into work, my on-board computer alerted me to the fact that the tire pressure of my rear tire was low (29psi) (and that's the first time I had ever seen the alert). I had noticed that it seemed maybe a bit soft, but hadn't had a chance to fill it up yet. Also, virtually ev...

Oof. Watching that video had my stomach in knots. Even with ABS, watching the rider brake hard on a wet surface was hard to watch.

Re: problem with starting
Because, just because MSF teaches it doesn't mean it's the only 'right' answer. The corollary to this is that just because you disagree with it doesn't mean it's wrong. And the thing is, I never said it was right. I gave you the reasoning behind the instruction, and am quite content to let you deci...

Re: problem with starting
I use the kill switch VERY little ... I use kick stand/key. If I forget and leave the key in the ignition (which I did last year and learned a VERY valuable lesson on making sure I turn the damn thing off!) its *my* fault. Maybe someday I will really let everyone know how I feel about the nanny sta...

Re: problem with starting
And a related question: why use the "kill" switch at all, except in fall-downs? Why not just turn off the key when you've finished riding? Muscle memory. The MSF courses (among others) teach new riders to use the kill switch to shut off the bike every single time . The theory goes that by...

Re: problem with starting
I often (as in once in every five starts or so) pull the clutch too soon after putting the kill switch to the "run" position. It seems in these cases that the on-board computer missed the fact that I pulled in the clutch, and so doesn't think it's in the correct starting position. Thus, pr...
