Re: Fuel Stip just Went!
I have a 2007 with 30K. If a repair is made under warranty by a BMW shop, the repair is warrantied for two years from the time of the work. I am on my sixth fuel strip and have not paid a penny for repair costs.

Turn off low fuel light
Really the only maintenance issue I have had with the R1200R is the fuel strip. They seem to last about 6 to 10 months. I am tired of the $170 cost of the fuel strip. Is there a way to inhibit the "Low Fuel" light from illuminating? I do not need the fuel gauge, but the light is distracting.

Re: Shifter adjustment
When you remove the external torx, replace it with an allen. That is the only external torx bolt on the bike, and you don't want to have to carry a special wrench just for that.

Re: Some tire talk - tire changers and tire wear
I cannot seem to get the mileage that everyone else is.
Metzler Z6 = 6,000 miles (R) 7,000 (F)
Metzler Z6 Interact = 3,000 miles (R) 6,000 (F)
Michelin PR2 = 7,000 miles (F+R)
I do about 50% straight roads/freeways and 50% canyons/winding roads.
Does anyone else have this issue??

Re: R1200R Long Distance Impressions
The other item that proved to be a great help was the 25 cent throttle lock. I used the O Ring that is specified for the oil filler plug and moved the right mirror and throttle grip assembly slightly inboard. I just roll the O Ring from the grip to the gap between the bar end and the grip and it hol...

R1200R Long Distance Impressions
I enjoy reading the posts in this forum, but rarely post. I purchased my R1200R because it seemed to be capable of most things. I ride a lot of twisties, and although it is not up to the standards set by my fellow riders (1098s, R1, and RSV4) it does ok, and I leave those bikes in the dust when they...

Re: How many fuel strips have you been through?
I have had my R12 is about 2 years, about 12k miles. 4 fuel strips. When I got it from he dealer the strip was bad. I always use the odometer, but when it goes bad showing empty (it has also been bad showing full) the low fuel light is on and is annoying. I asked the dealer if the low fuel light cou...

What kind of preparation and paint did you use on the screen. I tried this and the paint did not stick.gezerbike wrote:Here is a link to my Smugmug account. There are a bunch of pics of the bike and screen there. Everything is unlocked.

The "Flash 2 Pass" device (http://www.f2ptechnologies.com) is the most elegant and secure solution to the garage door problem. I put the transmitter in the headlight shell.
Just flash your high beams twice and the door opens.

Fuel Gauge and Battery
I know both of these issues have been discussed before but I was hoping for some new data or fix. 1. My R1200R is just over 2 years old, and it is going in for it's fourth fuel gauge/strip. You would think a company like BMW could make a fuel gauge. Has there been any changes or improvements? Since ...

Metzler Z6 Interact
My R came with Metzler Z6 tires. I got about 6K miles on the rear and 7.5K on the front. Not good, but acceptable. I replaced them with the new and "improved" Z6 interact. The performance was similar to the earlier tire, but at 2700 miles the rear was gone. This is not even close to accept...

Rear Brake Running Hot
I have found that after a ride, even a short ride, my rear brake is extremely hot, while the front is just warm to the touch. Is this normal or do I have a rear brake that is dragging? And no, I do not leave my foot on the lever. The rear wheel seems to rotate with minimal brake resistance on the ce...

Painting the windshield
Has anyone painted the windshield? I tried and the results looked pretty good, I got the effect I was looking for with the tint going from light tint to dark. The problem is that the paint does not adhere to the windshield. With a little solvent, it all came off. The paint was made for plastics. Doe...

Re: Tank capacity
The manual says "Usable Fuel Quantity" is 4.8 gallons, with "Reserve Fuel Quantity" "greater than" 3.2 quarts or 0.8 gallons. I would take this to mean the total fuel tank capacity is more than 5.6 gallons. The question is what exactly do they mean by "greater than...
