UNITED WE STAND

Post by R »

How does everyone feel about approaching BMW en-mass when we have enough evidence of faulty parts.
Believe me they are the MOST arrogant sods I have ever dealt with.
I was concerned for my 04 Rockster which I love. I've heard alot of feedback about failing Servo units, clutch and or spline failure, and rear end failures.
BMW does not want to know! I'm fine so far, 18,000 miles . I keep the bike in fresh juice when called for but still wanted assurance from the maker.
Yikes I was teated like a peasant , "out of my sight you fool"was sort of their reply.
My friend in London just purchased a Rocket 3 privately , it was months out of warranty. He took it to a dealer who could not resolve a throttle stop demon.
Upon contacting Hinkley they sent a factory van to pick up his 06 and gave him a loaner 06. WHHHAAAA.
Now they don't do this all the time but THEY are interested in thier product and those who buy them.
Some of us have a problem with BMWs attitude. We pay their wages.
So it may be worth our effort to unite simply to cover ourselves in case more failures.
Just a thought.
Saving money to eventually buy the company so's we'd all be safe.

I have never had a problem with BMW. All the Triumph dealers around here are multibrand dealers that do not give a damn about you at all, and treat you like they are doing you a favor when they let you bring a bike in for work or maintenance.

Also, my buddy's Thruxton is 2 years old and has terrible corrosion on the boltheads and most of the aluminum.

Mix that and the amount of time that I have spent in motel rooms waiting for his bike to get fixed, and I think that I will keep my Beemer.

As I said in my reply to your rather abrupt private message, 'R'. My experience with BMW customer service has been very good.

I do understand that some people have not had good experiences, but that's not happened with me.

All I've done is be reasonable, polite and friendly to my dealer and they've been the same back to me.

I HAVE had some experiences with certain staff members that were less than perfect, but those particular staff members have never been at my dealer for much longer (not that I have mentioned anything at all to the dealer head). Maybe I've just been lucky with my dealer, but I would hope not.

In my opinion, dealers are like doctors. Stay away from them as long as you can, and then be ready for the rectal exam when you finally have to go to one....

Ah, yes - but keeping friendly with them means they actually use lube....

I've had nothing but the best service at my dealer ( Max BMW ) in North Hampton, NH USA.
They are a BMW dealer exclusively, no other brands ( other than used / traded in bikes ) are serviced or sold there.

Exactly how much evidence do you have on faulty parts?
Internet complaints are not evidence, and you claim your bike is fine.

After 20k, my BMW has been as reliable as my previous 3 Japanese models, but with a lot more soul.

I got no clue about faulty parts.

I've been happy with my dealer, and BMW as well.

Oh, and I love my bike too.

If I ever find a fualty part on my bike, I'll let you know. Most part failures are wild internet rumours blown out of proportion.

First and foremost everyone is entitled to their opinion. Second since we are not alike things might happen to me that do not happen to others and viceversa.

Now, regarding Brownw3
Most part failures are wild internet rumours blown out of proportion.
It appears that he never had issues with the fuel QC's, clutch splines, diferential seal, differential bearing, surging or ABS to name a few. He is indeed a lucky man.......

my dealer has always been great to me - always willing to talk/give feedback & willing to look at gremlins.

if u aint happy - changing brands wont fix it, i have more problems with the Jap dealers than the my current guy.

To be honest with you at first i hated the BMW dealer. But now that I moved to a different city there's a better staff working at this one. Where I bought my bike was a big city and the sold mostly Japanese bikes and it all seemed so impersonal. Like they don't care if they sell a Beemer, because they sell 10 rice rockets for every 1 Beemer.

But where I am now they only sell Ducati and BMW and their trade ins. So it feel much more like a European dealer. But like all business they are there to make money so i can easily see my local BMW shop turning in to another Japanese bike shop down the road. :(

I did not much like the dealer (the principal) where I got my bike from, but the service staff and the sales guy were friendly bunch.

Since the dealership closed (the principal retired) I am forced to go to another outfit. They are friendly too, but they like my wallet very much too ...

Time to go self service + independent BMW specialist garage for the more difficult jobs.

Boxer:

I am fortunate that I chose BMW 25 years ago and never looked back. Now no machine is perfect but I have yet to be stranded by an airhead or any of the oilheads I've owned. Now stuff breaks but with this bike I feel I was almost lucky I crashed it. It was checked by what I may consider the ultimate motorcycle mechanic. There's just not anything spotty on the bike. It runs great.

On the other hand, I take my bike in for one service annually. This gives the master tech an opportunity to identify and fix warranty issues before they arise. Its a tactic that has always served me well. If it gets over 40k and has a problem, I've had no less than a half dozen goodwill repairs done on well worn bikes. In short, I've never walked away dissatisfied or had to stand on the side of the road.

Yeah, once I had my QD's fixed. I've been very happy. The bike feels so nice and as much as I want more horse power I just can't seem to take the steps to sell my rockster.

I've driven my bike 12-13 hour days in scorching heat and it just runs perfect. In fact, it seems to run better the more it goes.

Once I'm on the road the bike makes me forget about any stupid dealer annoyance. I'm happy again within minutes of driving my bike away from the dealer. Most of my concerns have just been the newbie jitters. The more I ride the less I get them.
