muffler removal re-visited

any pluses or minuses re: removing the muffler on the r1150r? I know it slightly lightens the bikes, but is there any harm in doing this?

Several folks here have done it and ran a short extension in it's place.
I pulled mine once to hear what it sounded like. Not that much difference to me. I don't think it hurts anything though.

I kinda like the looks of the stock can though.

I'm running a ~9" turn down tip and it definitely has a deeper tone but it's nothing obnoxious. I think it sounds great :) It's about an $8 experiment and maybe 45 minutes of your time plus it's easy to reverse.... Go for it ;)

Auto-zone should have it I think. This thread should have most of the info you need to do this mod: http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=8347

No harm will come to your engine, you'll lose about 9 pounds of weght and any auto parts store should have a tailpipe of your liking for a few bucks.

The diameter is 1 3/4" and I would get one with a slight turndown to minimize water getting into the cat.

Then just walk away from the bike, on the left side, and enjoy the gorgeous look of the bare wheel with no can obstruction. 8)
