Purchasing Internet Boxer Parts

Post by Eddiem »

Aloha

As you may have guessed the parts here in the Islands are real expensive because everything has to be shipped here and because there is only one BMW bike dealer in Oahu.

Can you guys recomend any web places where you have purchased parts?? I'm looking to purchase a few parts such as fuel filter, air filter, I also need to replace the rear brake (red) lens....any info will be appreciated, BTW I've searched and I've found several places but I want a place that is reliable and that you guys may know.

Aloha

This is my favorite for over 5 years:

Chicago BMW - 1-800-262-9150

http://www.chicagobmwmotorcycle.com/store/

From their website: "MOST ORDERS WILL SHIP WITHIN 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS FROM THE DATE OF YOUR ORDER. Oversize Packages & Multiple Box Shipments Are Subject to Additional Handling Charges. International, APO/FPO, Hawaii and Alaska Orders must call or email for shipping charges."

They don't make mistakes, ground UPS ships quickly and you can order what you want by name or description. They are -20% off of BMW retail prices for Genuine BMW parts. The parts website wasn't working when I just tried it. Hopefully the toll free 1-800 phone number works for Hawaii too. The shipping charge for a small order is almost as much as for a large order (~$9 to $12), so tally a big list to make it count.

Another choice is Beemer Boneyard. Used parts, assemblies, components as well as new spares, consumables and accessory maintenance items.

I've used Chicago before, and it took a month to get the part, and I was charged 15-20% more than the price they emailed to me. Then when I call about the difference they gave me the run around. All I wanted was a phone call, if the original price was not valid.

I will probably try http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com next.

I've dealt with Bob's Bmw and Hammersley both great to deal with, Hammersley gave the best prices.http://www.webparts.com/cycles/index.htm
whereas Bob's has everything in stock all the time.

I agree with Bob's and Hammersley BMW. Good, fast service and Hamemersley is usually discounted. I've rarely gotten an order from Chicago BMW in less than a month, and often longer. Also, Max BMW is good and they send you M&M's with the order. Also, you might see if the local guy will give you a discount for your business. It's worth a try.

I cannot recommend Chicago BMW, unless you really need that 20% discount and you don't care how long it takes to get the order. In my opinion they have a lot of work to do yet on their website and their communications.

Max BMW however is absolutely tops. Online parts fiche, exemplary communications, fast shipping, and of course the M&Ms. :smt023

parts

Post by toolinalong »

Hmmm. didn't know there was a dealer over there.....

my ratings:

MaxBMW (the m&m's give em a .1 point edge over...)

Bob's BMW (got my cherry, still love 'em)

Hammersly, one transaction no problems

A&S one transaction no problems

Sierra BMW (Reno, NV) several transactions in person and via mail good guys

BMW of Santa Cruz one transaction no problems

don't go there......unless of course you have to:

Manhattan BMW
(gave me the "don't use car-rated oil" speech when I stopped in last summer to get a filter and some plugs and stuff while on a road trip)

And never again, for love nor money:

Chicago BMW

all for now.....

Hammersly, one transaction: Big problems. They first lost my order and then overcharged me. They refused to answer any emails about the overcharge. Deal with them at your own risk. [-X

Hiya,

Anyone knows if anyone does International orders? and if I am going the Max BMW path, is there a difference between the NY office or the New Hampshire office?

Chicago is giving me the silent treatment after they told me that they do not ship internationally and I gave them a US address.

Cheers

I think that the only difference between the Max shops would be state sales tax, which you do not have to pay if the part is shipped outside of that state.

I have had ZERO issues with Chicago BMW. It's well known that if you want to save 20% and time is NOT of the essence, that is the way to go. If you need it yesterday, shop elsewhere.
