Just underneath the end of the pipe is a 3/16" pop rivet. You have to drill this out and pull on the baffle with pliers. It's just a tube about one foot long that slides out. If you want to put it back in, just use another pop rivet or do what I did and use a screw. I'll post pics if you need some.

The pipe comes in 2 versions, one with a removable baffel and one without. The removable version has a screw and a small lug that is at the bottom rear and you unscrew this and remove the baffle (the small bore tube you mention is the baffel).
If you do not have this screw you do not have the memovable type and you will have to resort to drilling the rivet.
I have removed my baffel and it sounds a little louder but has a nicer note.
I will post a picture showing the rear later.

hi guys,
so it looks like mine has the rivet and not a screw
someone suggested to dremel the top of the rivet off then tap the rivet out.
but once the rivet is out, will the baffle come out smoothly from that end? would it be easier to take the "slip on" off (once the rivet is off), then pull out the baffle from the other side?
if you guys think it will, then i'll try it.
thanks

No you can't get at the baffel from the front it is not that long and I would not drill or dremmel the rivit until it is confirmed that it will not cause problems. As I stated before I have the silencer that comes with the factory removal bafel option

forgive my ignorance but...allanj255 wrote:No you can't get at the baffel from the front it is not that long and I would not drill or dremmel the rivit until it is confirmed that it will not cause problems. As I stated before I have the silencer that comes with the factory removal bafel option
other than re-installing the baffle and not being able to find another screw to hold it down again, would there be a problem running the exhaust with no baffle and no rivet/screw in it's place?

Be sure to only drill the rivit head. Where the rivit goes into the baffel it is threaded so you can find an allen metric screw to replace the rivit if you want to re-install it.hydra wrote:forgive my ignorance but...allanj255 wrote:No you can't get at the baffel from the front it is not that long and I would not drill or dremmel the rivit until it is confirmed that it will not cause problems. I run my bike without the baffel and have no fueling problems. Orbea has obviously done this to his can and it sounds that the baffel is the same in both versions of the can and as he says it is just a locating screw fit and only takes seconds to replace.

As long as you have the exhaust gas sensor installed in the y-piece then there's no issues at all - it's not even all that loud (until the packing in the can gets worn out.hydra wrote:forgive my ignorance but...allanj255 wrote:No you can't get at the baffel from the front it is not that long and I would not drill or dremmel the rivit until it is confirmed that it will not cause problems. thanks for everyone's replie's. got the baffle out the other day with the help of Jeff from san jose bmw where i got my 6k servicing done. now mine looks just like yours.
yes, it's not that much louder than before but it's a bit deeper in sound. sjbmw did a slight tweak on my power commander after removing the baffle and one of my TB's was pretty off causing my plugs to foul. so she feels even more responsive now. i don't think i gained much of anything by removing the baffle except the slight change in sound.

Will it pass an MOT test or do you need to reinstall the baffle?
Coppers accept this?
So many questions ... so little time...
i don't think you should have a problem. it should pass MOT. but to be sure you should call your local bmw dealer...
to clarify, it's not really a mod, it's more like an option for the exhaust. it's not much louder than with it in, so you won't have an issue with noise and i believe it's releasing the same amount of gasses....
