Damn parking garage...

Post by adg44 »

My garage here at my condo has some real problems with leaking water through the cement and out of the pipes. It's dripped on the hood of my RS 4 three times, but I've been able to compound it off. I have complained numerous times, but it still happens. I just eventually stopped parking in those spots, and I also have a cover for the RS 4, but I hadn't picked one up yet for the bike.

I have my bike down on the fourth level in the corner since there is no reason to take up a whole space with it. I haven't checked on it in over week, so tonight when I'm coming back, I decide to look and this is what I found:

All the calcium and minerals that gets picked up through the cement and everything leaked all over the bike - probably a few days ago when we had the snow.

I luckilly had some quick detailer and a microfiber towel in the back of the RS 4, so I tried to get off as much as I can. Problem is, the white mineral deposits come off, but everything is etched still. Especially the cluster and the tank, which isn't clear coated.

So, any suggestions on what to do from here? I will talk with the property management, but I have a feeling it's not going to get me anywhere. Any other products I should try on the cluster?

I once parked a CB450 in a parking garage in Amherst MA one winter, thinking to keep it out of the winter exposure. Turned out to be about the most hazardous to paint and looks place I could have used. Would have been better off parking it in the snow outside my apartment. Not only were there deposits of soot from exhaust of parking cars, but similar deposits to those describe here. Ended up having to paint the whole bike and frame.

If they are lime stains, then I would think about using one of the household cleaners used to clean limescale from toilets, BUT try the liquid on a small area first. You might be able to find such a cleaner in thixotropic form so that you could paint it on like a paint stripper.

The deposits should only be very thin and come off very easilly.

Ride safely,

Kaboom is the best product I have found for hard water stains. It comes in a purple bottle and you can find it in the household cleaning section of any major grocery store. But, like Roger said, I would test it first on a small inconspicuous place.

Try cleaning it and if that doesn't work, when you talk to the property manager, ask them about their insurance. You or they may want to make a claim under their insurance. Check your policy too.

Seems like a cover would be good idea too. Hope it cleans up.

I would definitely take it up with the property management company. Do you pay extra for parking in the garage? Then they shouldn't be trashing any vehicle. It wouldn't surprise me if there is a clause in the lease that says they are not responsible for damages to vehicles.
