Just acquired a set of Givi V35 Panniers. I think they suit the lines of the R very well.

I don't suppose the Givi's work with the BMW pannier mounts.

They panniers are not compatible with the BMW rails as the mounting kit utilises the same fixing points. Even with the Givi mounts and top box fixings they're still considerably cheaper than the BMW system. Givi even provide different colour spacers depending if fixing to frame or footpegs.

I got them from a supplier off ebay, who provided the panniers, mounting kit and top box fixings. Only problem was a slight delay with delivery due to Italian truckers striking.

Now all I need is some unseasonably warm weather to try them out in anger.

Those look great!..

I've wondered when someone would pull the trigger and buy a pair. With the reported problems with the latches on the Beemer bags, I've seriously considered a pair of Givis.

When you get time, would you pls post a photo of the bike with the bags off (with only the mounting hardware showing)? Thanks much.

I like the looks of those better than the BMW cases. Not sure about the top box rack thingy though.

How big are they in comparison to the BMW bags? The BMW bags are nice 'cause I can put my Shuberth Concept-II in one and my Roadcrafter in the other - but they are awfully wide.. that has caught me more than once bumping another bike with the bag.

The Givi's look nice. How's the locking mechanism? How easy is it to install or remove the bags to the mount?

Beatiful....!!! , but i dont like the looks of the top case rack tough... too intrusive.., otherwise looks awesome...
If those could fit my BMW side racks, it could be by far, my first choice...

Ok fellas, added some more photos....

Rear view - they stick out more than the cylinder heads and are about 2" wider than mirrors.

Pannier opening mechanism, basically uses a single key, red button pushed down to open pannier, red button closest to bike pressed down to release pannier from mounting rack. When the key is removed the panniers are locked onto the bike.

Mounting rack

Top box rack and plate can be removed and isn't needed to fix pannier mountings. Capacity of panniers is 35 litres and they comfortably hold a full face helmet.
Allegedly waterproof but this has yet to be tested.

To answer the question on another area of the forum on why I blank out the number plate (license plate for some). It's to avoid the bike being cloned - a lot of cars and bikes are stolen in the UK. The thieving scum

then change the number plate and subsitute it with a number from a similar vehicle. You don't know your vehicle's has been cloned until you get the police knocking on your door for unpaid parking and speeding tickets. Logging onto to forums such as this is an easy way for the scum to get the numbers of similar vehicles.

I have a topbox that I had on my VFR800 but was told early last year that I couldn't get a rack to fit it to my R1200R. The old rack/plate was of a different design to yours.

First post on this forum....My version is the pinstripe, with the usual factory stuff. Love the bike! (of course)

Thanks for sharing your pic's of the Givi's. I'd been looking at them on the Givi site since they were up there. A set is now on the way!

All the Givi Monokey cases should fit the top plate. They might make a Monolock top plate, in which that family of cases would fit. They are not interchangeable. I ordered one of the 46 liter top cases for use 2-up, might get one of the little 35's for solo and commuting.

I think I like those more than the OEM's....I really like how they "hug" the motorcycle in close.
Much nicer than those that stick out so far.....

I also have the Givi system top rack and unfortunately there has been constant problems with the metal fracturing. The plates welded to the tubes that run from each side and to which the top box mounting is bolted, flex and then fracture. This has happened on both sides now and I have resorted to bolting the top box mounting by drilling down through the tubes and using longer bolts – effective but not very elegant. There has not been any excessive weight placed in the topbox, in fact I use it mainly to store my helmet and gloves etc. when leaving the bike parked. I have used Givi systems on most motorcycles that I’ve owned, and this is the first time that I’ve been disappointed in the quality of the fittings.

Same thing happened to the Givi rack on my 2000 VFR. It was an older version - the updated version I replaced it with was much beefier and didn't give me any problems. Seems like some of the rack designs are pretty good, and some of them are pretty iffy - not to mention ugly. But I've mostly been pretty happy with all the Givi stuff I've bought.
