Waiting Impatiently

Post by r1200rforme »

How long has the wait been for a R1200R that was ordered? My order placed 11/1/07, have not heard a word about build date or VIN #.

I would bother your Sales person....
Too bad they don't have the same kind of tracking the do for BMW cars. You get to see every step of the way online. You get the VIN then track it through the factory, paint shop, engine, on a train, what ship it's on, you can even do satellite tracking of the ship and see where it's at exactly. Webcams of the ship yard....

Good luck with the wait! :)

Stopped by the dealer yesterday, don't know anymore today than I did last week, still no VIN, or delivery date. I know when it will be delivered, the next big snow storm!

A friend just took delivery of a Mini S. Online updates during the build process, transport to port, ocean crossing etc. Pretty neat.

I ordered two R12R's in November; one for myself and one for the wife, and have heard nothing since. I called the dealer yesterday and he said that they are having production problems on them and he was unable to find out anything from the factory.

I searched on line and can't find anything out about this.

Does anybody know if they are having factory problems?

Thanks for the links. I'll give them a call.

Our dealer has bikes also, but just not in the right colors with the right factory extras that we want.

I was in BMW of Atlanta last week to get my F650 recall work done and as I recall they had ONE of those granite gray metallic silver ones on the floor.

And I believe BMW of Daytona has had one on Ebay, and I know Max's (NY and NH) has several he's advertised on Ebay. In PA - Hermy's is advertising a slightly used one (7k) for around $12k on Ebay.

They're around.. but prolly no '08's yet. The '07's appear to be deals..

Street Cycles, Falmouth, Maine.

They really want to move it.

I had to order a special build for mine to get ACS (+ABS, computer, etc) in Crystal Grey with Australian specs. The wait was initially quoted at 13 weeks. About 4 weeks after order the delivery date blew out to about 16 weeks, but then actual delivery came at about 12 weeks from order, with nearly 4 weeks notice of final delivery.

The BMW system allowed my dealer to know when the bike was scheduled to be assembled, when it actually was assembled, when it was laoded onto ship and when it arrived in Australia. While these dates changed (it was built earlier than scheduled), my dealer knew at the time of each change.

Noticed on one dealer's website that the F800GS production has issues, delivery's will be in Sept.,08. I hope that the R1200R's do not share the same fate. :(

Since there are '08 R1200R's at dealers now - I don't think that's the case. And it isn't clear if the GS is a production "issue" or an allocation issue.. the September date was sent to US dealers - dunno on dealers in Europe.

Caroanbill's experience is the way it should go down.

The 800GS has been delayed. We only got the 'baby' didn't get the 9mos. of reasoning behind it.

Some good news for a change, my R is in the US. Dealer called yesterday afternoon, bike will arrive there Tues./Wed. Now, if we get a break in the weather, I'll ride it home or make arrangements for them to deliver. This will make the wait for spring that much harder!

I just found out Saturday from the dealer that my bikes are scheduled for production this week and that they should be here in about 4 weeks. :smt041 :smt041 :smt041

Guess that I was a little premature on complaining that I couldn't get much information on when they would be made. Maybe that is just the way of BMW??

When they come in I'll try to post a driveway shot of them!!!

Well I got a call from the dealer that my R was in the showroom ready for my inspection. When I arrived I was surprised to see a pin striped tank because I had not ordered it. OK, we will remove that tank and replace it. I got the VIN and went home. I had another question and called the dealership and was told we had another problem. Did I order a 2007 machine?? I think not, but there it was. A quick check of my order shows my bike in production. How strange. Seems we have a slight mix up of sorts. Dealer has been great but has not got an answer from BMW as yet. I'm glad it's snowing and not the middle of summer.
