Both Als-
Thanks for looking into this issue, especially for us 2002 R1150** owners. Mrs. Sweatmark's '02 Roadster will likely need the spline inspection/maintenance/repair, if only to address my angst during week-long middle-of-nowhere road trips.
To recap: is the spline issue focused on transmission input shaft, or motor output shaft, or both?

The failure manifests itself primarily on the tranny input shaft and the clutch disc gear and can very well be from a variety of sources including: missalignment, metallurgy, little, poor or wrong lubrication, bearing looseness, bearing fits to case, machining issues, parrallel offset.....of course by looking at the wear patterns closely, dtermining the hardness of the components and a little visualization one can munster a pretty good guess as to what might be the pre-decesor to the failure.
But, I'm keeping my hypotheisis close to my heart until I take a look, upclose and personal, at some failed componnets....so if anyone is planning to do the spline check/grease bit let me know so I can provide some items for you to check and start crossing items of the list.

Re: Clutch spline lube (crosspost)
AlI hope he still has the parts. I shot him an email last night, and I'll call him today.
I talked with the shop this morning. Unfortunately, they discarded my old input shaft and clutch plate a few days ago. However, they promised me they would call me the next time they change one out to see if anyone still wants them. I'll post and PM a message if the parts become available. I'm sorry, but the shop had no reason to save mine and tossed them out.

No problem, actually I have had prior opportunities, unfortunately I was overseas at the time. Something will come up.

Re: Clutch spline lube (crosspost)
Al was a big help with tips in my process - Hey Al - I have my old parts if he can't get his. I used the the old shaft as a clutch alignment tool. I believe I had some trouble down shifting but the difficulty is hard to define so all I really remember is that it did not feel quite right. I'd have to say the main reason was to check it for experience and again it felt like something I need to look into. It was estimated by others that I was mere miles away from failure.

I'll take them off your hands if you don't mind. What was your mileage when this happened? My address is a couple of emails prior to this one, please tell me how much for shipment so I can reinburse you, I insist. I can PayPal if you have an account, or shoot you a check.
The offer is still open for anyone that unfortunately ran into this malady and still has the parts....it is best to compare more than one set. I know I'll have fun with it and will post for the benefit of all......
