K12R Mirrors on my R

Re: K12R Mirrors on my R
Just out of curiosity I checked out the price for the Rizomas (in Euro) and converted it at todays rate and then at the dollar/euro rate for one year ago.
The mirrors cost me 281 euro including shipping to Sweden. That's about $452 at todays rate but "only" $387 using the rate from this time last year.
Still pricey but quite a bit cheaper. The weak dollar is really pushing some prices up. I wonder what it will do to the prices of european bikes!

I have been saving for the F800GS and it was originally slated to be just over $10,250.00 base price. Now I hear it is up over $11K. It will likely price itself over my pain threshold by the time the postponed release takes place.hass wrote:The weak dollar is really pushing some prices up. Hello,
did anyone of you check Barracuda EVO mirrors? http://www.barracudamoto.it/pagina.aspx?PAG=NOVITA I found them pretty nice and less expensive than the
Rizoma. They're also quite new and the price here in Italy (for the Italian DOT approved type) should be around 70 Euro ea (if I'm not wrong
)

Re: K12R Mirrors on my R
Another approach to the mirror issue...these are Wunderlich pieces that I purchased from Santa Cruz BMW when I bought the Wunderlich Throttle Lock. I know bar-ends are not everyone's cup of tea, but I have grown accustomed to them on other bikes, most recently a Speed Triple. I find the vibration reduced and the view around my shoulders & elbows improved. Plus, and this is no small thing, I think they look way better than the stock MM ears.

Re: K12R Mirrors on my R
Off topic, but....
ErikM - what kind of screen do you have? Whats your recommendation? Does it keep wind off your chest and out from under your helmet at 75mph+
NCGS - Same qstn? I see its Ztechnick, but what size did you choose? How are the growing pains working out for you?
Thx guys, just got my bike and trying to figgure out the accessorizin'.

Re: K12R Mirrors on my R
Thanks for posting these great pics. I really like the mirrors and called Santa Cruz BMW to inquire about them. They are low in stock but have have one pair in black. The deal killer for me: they want $175 for EACH mirror! Oh well.RonR wrote:Another approach to the mirror issue...these are Wunderlich pieces that I purchased from Santa Cruz BMW...

Re: K12R Mirrors on my R
Hey Bill...they quoted $175 each???? When I bought mine in February, they charged me $35 each! Talk to Devon Mc Mahon at Santa Cruz. He recommended the mirrors to me as they are not listed in their catalog. I agreed to buy them after he sent me an image, and he also sold me the 8X45MM bolts required to mount them for $2.20 each. The prices may be higher now because of the regrettable demise of the greenback vs. the euro, but not that much. For example, the Wunderlich Throttle Lock was $109 in February and is now $135, according to the Santa Cruz web site. The part number for the mirrors is 1557406. Good luck

Re: K12R Mirrors on my R
Thanks, Ron. I plugged your part number into their website and came up with $45.

Re: K12R Mirrors on my R
I originally bought the 'standard' height screen. It didn't do what I wanted to do, so I bought their "taller" screen. It didn't fill the bill either, so I sent it back.atldinan3 wrote:NCGS - Same qstn? I see its Ztechnick, but what size did you choose? How are the growing pains working out for you?

I took the standard screen to my local glass shop owner buddy and he cut 4" off the top of it. It's much better, but I'm going to throw in the towel and go with a BMW screen.
Wanna buy the Ztechnik? $249 new - I'll take $125 plus (reasonable UPS) shipping. I'll post some pics tomorrow.
Re: K12R Mirrors on my R
Thanks Erik for the original post. I took the info to my dealer this weekend when I was taking delivery of my bike and he gave me a straight up swap for my mirrors with the K mirrors. They will be in in a week -I cant wait to get them!
NCGS - Thanks for the offer but I actually just turned down that screen when I bought the bike. While I totally respect its functionality, I just cant get over the look of the taller screen. It takes away from the classic "roadster" look of this bike. So I'm still looking for the perfect "look".
Cheers

Re: K12R Mirrors on my R
I went with Ron's idea and have had the black version installed for a week now.RonR wrote:Another approach to the mirror issue...these are Wunderlich pieces that I purchased from Santa Cruz BMW <snip>
I had previously installed the GS hand guards with the Wunderlich extensions and am pleased to report that these bar-end mirrors work fine with them. I left the sanded down aluminum washers in place, put a flat washer in the middle of them, and mounted the mirrors on top of them using a black-finished M8x50 socket head cap screw. (Couldn't find stainless steel except in quantities of 50!)
Riding impressions:
1) Vibration is gone. Nada. Zip.
2) Images are a little fuzzy because I'm looking through the bottom edge of my progressive eye glasses, but still clearer than the vibration-prone stockers.
3) At first it was a bit odd to look further down, but I found it very intuitive since it's the same as looking at my hands. My brain has learned where they are!
4) Angle of view is somewhat wider than stock, but not so wide that judging distances is difficult.
5) I have each mirror adjusted with a bias to the wider, more lateral field of view (to catch adjacent lanes better) but even when set to view straight back, I can't see my manly broad shoulders at all.
6) There is still a bit of a blind spot, but it is very close to the bike, which is OK with me since I always do head checks.
7) I like the fact that the mirror can be firmly tightened on its stalk so it doesn't move around when I get on and off the bike and bump it.
8.) They stick out a tiny bit more to the sides than the stock mirrors, but I can easily see exactly where my widest point is when lane splitting.
9) At night, it's easy to lean forward a bit and not be annoyed by headlights behind me.
So, for my first try at bar-end mirrors, I'm sold.

Re: K12R Mirrors on my R
Congrats, Bill. Your observations regarding the bar-end experience closely mirror (ha!
) my own.
Now, what to do with the unsightly stock mirror mounting holes? My solution was 8mm plastic auto plugs. I came across them at my local Ace hardware, $.49 ea. They come in various sizes and are meant to be used to hold interior panels in place in cars. The mirror mount is 10mm, but the 10mm plug's top was too large and didn't look right. So I used 8mm plugs wrapped with teflon plumber's tape.

Re: K12R Mirrors on my R
I seen the mirror in a BMW brochure and asked my local dealer if they had them for the R1200R he said yes. I asked him if they are the same chrome mirror that where on the R1200C and the only thing he could tell me about the mirror is that they are for the R1200R. They thread directly in and I paid $300 AUS for them which included freight.
