Sidestand play or not to play

Post by iowabeakster »

While cleaning...I noticed some play in my sidestand. It has a wiggle-jiggle at the pivot that is bigger than I expect. I have never noticed it before. But I am not sure that I have ever checked it either.

I am having visions of an embarrassing parking lot situation. Consulting the maintenance manual I see Loctite 2701 is used on the bolt. Before I roll around on the garage floor and wrestle with that bugger...I would like to hear about your sidestands.

Would anybody have some insight or be willing to wiggle theirs and share the results?

Remember, wiggling more than twice...
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...

Mine has ~1/4" or more of vertical play at the tip when extended, and I believe it always has. Doesn't seem to be a problem at all. I grease it regularly through the grease hole at the bushing and around the top of the switch, so I don't think it's worn, just another of those TADT (They All Do That) things...

Hi,

There is no wiggle in my 2003 R. Both side and central stands have a very firm feel to them.

No detectible wiggle on my 2001 R1150R. I rarely use the side stand though - tend to put it down temporarily in case I have a senior moment when heaving the bike on to the centre stand.
Noticed my loan R1200R had only a centre stand- I kept looking at our works cctv to see if it had fallen over yet.
