muffler question-------again

Here we go again... removing the muffler on the 1150 r-------does it or will it harm the overall performace of the bike. I've been told that removing the can can adversly affect back pressure and over time damage the engire Would like to get rid of the 20+ # it adds. Let me know what yyou think....thanks.....rt
