New sounds from the brakes.

Post by Nakigara »

Hey everyone! About two weeks ago, I replaced the brake pads on the front and rear of my '04 Rockster. I used DSKYZD's post on how to do this.

http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13283

Things seemed to go well, and everything went as planned. But here's the thing, I have since noticed that my servo seems to be louder when braking above 20 mph or so. Also when applying the brakes at low speeds, I can hear a "clink" noise from the front calipers right as I squeeze the lever. It almost sounds as if the pads are loose. Any help on this would be appreciated! [-o<

Thanks,
Dan

Can't imagine why the abs system would be louder, other than the possibility the change in fluid level in the pump's resevoir. New pads means the pistons are nearly fully retracted in the calipers pushing most of the fluid back into the resevoir. Don't know why that would make it louder though. Have you inspected everything to insure that all is installed properly and is tight?

I gave it a quick look and everything looks ok. Fluid level was fine at the time, so I didn't bleed the system. Maybe I should do that just to be sure.

Sounds like the pistons are sticking, possibly due to their new position and new found
contamination after being squeezed in, it may require a clean with brake fluid
but a disassembly willl be required.
