Mount Fuji Japan

I want to share this experience with you on "Climbing Mount Fuji, Tallest Mountain in Japan" If you visit Japan in July - August (recommended season to climb). Mount Fuji is 3776 meters in height. The starting point is 5th station (half way up the mountain) or at the bottom of the mountain if you prefer. It will take approximately 6 1/2 hours to get up there. If you are in good condition, you can do this within 3 1/2 hours. Normally, we will start the climb around 0600 AM and up there no later than 1:00 PM then have lunch and start to hike down the mountain, 3 1/2 hours.



At 5th station, you can purchase walking stick for Yen 1200 or $11.00




Red "Torii" gate is at half way from 5th station.




Expensive sleeping spot/share with others/must make reservation.




This section is very steep, close to 80 degrees look up

Night climbing tour. These folks will start the climb around 6:00 PM and get to top around 0100 - 0200 in the morning. They will have a chance to look for sunrise, from the top.

Those are impressive pictures. Sounds like a greta hike. Do the night climbers stay in tents, or do they offer cabins or rooms for them. That would be neat to watch the sunrise from up there.

Camping is not allowed on the slope but you can bypass this (nobody say that you cannot take a nap on the trail):

Start the climb late in the evening (6 or 7 PM) and get to top by 0100 - 0200 AM. This is how the night climbers do. Then, wait a few more hours to see the sunrise, normally around 0300 AM. IT IS COLD AT THE TOP (3776 Meters). After you saw the sunrise, you hike down the mountain. It will take approximately 3 1/2 hours.

Yes, there are few cabins but they are expensive ($100 plus for 1 meter x 2 meters with sleeping stuffs). Sorry!! NO PRIVATE ROOM, you will in an open bay with other hikers. You must make reservation in advance since official climbing season is short (July - August).

Officially, you can hike Mount Fuji all year but you get no support after official season is ended.

I never done a night climb yet; I will attempt next year.
