Centech fuse box and relay harness install question....
hi all....i am considering bying the Centech box and the harness.....if somebody can provide the DETAILED instructions on the install on r12r (tapping into a powersource, etc) and close up pic's please. I have no previous experience with motorcycle electronic's whatsoever, so please consider this if you deside to provide detailed instructions. I would also like to know what wire do you use for the electronic farcle hook ups....what gauge, manufacturer, etc....

Search "centech" or "fuse box" maybe on this forum. I think both Don and I gave photos.

Re: Centech fuse box and relay harness install question....
...i did the search....and saw plenty of photos but all of them lack the detailed instructions and diagrams on where to take the power and exactly how to wire it.....BMW of SF finaly got my fuel gauge fixed (they say that they get at least 2-3 calls a day obout this problem)....new fuel gauge (sensor) hardware is available now and they have changed position on where it sits in a tank.....you can actually see the strip now when you look inside the tank.......but anyway, they quoted me $250 for the TPMS and Centech box install.....sounds like a good price since they'll have to dismount the tires, install sensors in the wheels, mount them, ballance them, wire the display to the Centech box and wire the Centech box to the bike....what do you guys/gals think......is it a fair price?
thx...alex.

Re: Centech fuse box and relay harness install question....
Wiring the Centech box was something I enjoyed doing myself on a cold winter Saturday. So for me that would not be a good price.
I just ran the wires on mine to the battery. There will be a +side on the Centech and a - side.

....i see......but this will NOT make it a switced cercuit....would it?......I wold like to get power when I turn the key on and get no power in the key off position....i wouldn't want my TPMS monitor to be always on and draining power.....

If I could get my dealer to do *anything* for $250 I would think it was a bargain!Graf wrote:...they quoted me $250 for the TPMS and Centech box install.....sounds like a good price since they'll have to dismount the tires, install sensors in the wheels, mount them, ballance them, wire the display to the Centech box and wire the Centech box to the bike....what do you guys/gals think......is it a fair price?

If they had the switching relay they could hook that up while they were at it with little or no extra effort. I haven't hooked up my Centech box yet because I hate messing with wires, but it's pretty simple. Someone here ought to be able to supply you with a simple wiring diagram to show you just how easy it is. And you need the spec for the relay. Anybody...?

i am planning to get the Centech box and relay here: http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/pr ... p?Item=CEN
there is also a nice relay kit from easternbeever......but it's much more expencive......the Centech relay harness should be fine....or that what I was told:-)

Re: Centech fuse box and relay harness install question....
...well....after much back and forth on what exactly and where I should order the Centech box i decided to order from this guy http://easternbeaver.com/Main/Products/ ... /ap-1.html
people seem to be very happy with his custom, heavy duty relay harneses and I paid $90.64 for Centech box, harness with 30" leads and a diode (don't know if I needed...but it couldn't hert) and shipping.
now the only thing is left is to receive it and install it
....maybe I'll figure it out when I receive it.....if not....it's the dealers headache...

Re: Centech fuse box and relay harness install question....
I installed a AP-1 and 170 Relay the other day from Centech in about a half n hour........
(It took me most of the time trying to make all the extra wire look nice even though no one will ever see it).
I called them and stopped by to pick it up as they are only 10 miles from my house here in PA.
The instructions are clear and the keyed hot wire is easy to get into once you unwrap the factory tape.
It is the BLACK w/ YELLOW STRIPE wire off the ignition relay next to the damping control knob under the seat.... I used a clip splice for this connection of the Centech orange wire. Do not cut the Black w/ yellow stripe wire???????? I am not sure what could happen with the Can Bus system!!!???
It is great having all your items be keyed......(gerbings,motolights,zumo,extra power outlet)
I paid $93.00 with Pa sales tax.
Good Luck

Graf-
Check out the BLACK w/YELLOW stripe wire coming out of the ignition relay.........I can take a picture tomorrow if that will help...I was hoping no one would ever see my wiring though
Let me know if you want me to post a few pic's

Re: Centech fuse box and relay harness install question....
I tapped into mine at the accessory outlet in the middle of the bike.
I forgot the color of the wire though.
But, if you look at the installation instructions for Hyperlights for the GS, it'll tell you the color though - can't research now b/c I'm at work.

See here:
http://www.r1200gs.info/howto/relay.html
And there you'll find this(which is hopefully the same for our bikes):
"Finding a good source of switched power on the new GS is easy. At the rear, under the rider's seat, is a large black plug with twist-off cap. It pulls out of a clip and I believe is used to plug the diagnostic computer to the bike during servicing.
Find the green wire with blue stripe leading into the plastic gizmo. Strip off a bit of insulation, tap into it, and wrap it back up with tape. The red arrow points to the orange wire I used for this purpose. The green wire w/blue stripe has +12v power as long as the ignition is on, and is not interrupted by the engine start cycle -- it's the perfect wire to use.
Don't be tempted to tap into the red wire, it has +12v ALL THE TIME (even when the ignition is off).

Re: Centech fuse box and relay harness install question....
Great info OlyVR......this is exactly what i was looking for.......that diagnostic plug looks absolutely the same as on GS and I can clearly see that wire you are talking about.......I don't see why more people don't tap into it on R12R.....it's right there.....under the seat.....if people have anything negative to say about tapping that wire, I'll definately appreciate the info.....otherwise, it's the one i'll use.....

Re: Centech fuse box and relay harness install question....
I really don't know anything about electrical stuff on bikes such the R1200R but it seem that Centech allow to turn on the accessories when the bike start meanwhile protect the battery and electrical system to be slowly drawn while the bike is parked.
Am I right ?
Is it also protecting from the Faults Warnings or "bike death freezing" because the computer can't deal with all kind of electrical add-ons ? (that he think they are shortcuts)
After 3 or 4 weeks reading this forum here is pretty much my final set up for my electrical additions.
1--> Scorpio Alarm. (Low consumption with safe install recommended by the manufacturer)
2-->Stebel Horn Nautilus.
3--> MFW-Kellerman Master Flash LED Mirrors.
4--> Admorelighting LED kit in my GIVI rear case 52 liters.
5--> Kissantech Path Blazer. (Connected to Low Beam or on the Hella's FF50 auxiliary lights)
6--> Hella's FF50 auxiliary lights kept as Halogen. (Not HID converted)
7--> PhotonBlaster LED mounted on caliper.
8--> Whelen Tir3 Amber LED's somewhere on each side of the bike... probably on crashguard.
Everything is pretty much ordered...I have found a mechanic that can't stop warning me from "Fault Warning" and I don't know what to tell him to stop Freaking out.
Should I use a Centech Fuse Box to avoid risking "Fault Warning" or my bike electrical just suddenly dying on the freeway ?

Re: Centech fuse box and relay harness install question....
The Centech fuse box is available in the UK from here.
But under additional Info it says a relay can't be used, I presume this means between the fuseboxand battery connection.
But in the Product Review says they used a relay.
All rather confusing!
http://www.nippynormans.com/prodinfo.as ... =1&mitem=2
Suitable for ALL motorcycles whatever the wiring system.
Simply wire directly to the battery and then fit whatever accesories you desire to the fuse panel.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
On a Can Bus bikes the Fuse Panel will be live all the time as the Relay Kit cannot be fitted. The current draw would not be a problem as long as nothing that is connected to the fuse panel is left on!.
It is possible to wire the Fuse Panel into the accessory socket which is turned off when the ignition is turned off. However the current draw is limited though the accessory socket.
"Product Report" from Motorcycle Consumer News"
OVERALL RATING ***** (5 STAR)
"With all the equipment that we added to the bike, we needed to protect our investment from inadvertent electrical surges. Enter the Centech AP-1. It is compact (3.0"x2.4"x1.25"), water resistant, and designed to supply fused power for up to eight individual electronic/accessories up to 60 amperes. We securely mounted ours under the seat near the rear fender. Connections to the fuse panel are really easy since a "lugless" terminal is used under the retaining screw. No additional fasteners are needed. A 30 amp sealed power switch relay kit was also added to the mix to provide further protection."
Another Distribution Block/Power Relay idea is here.

I'm working up the enthusiasm to tackle this project. Having an unerring knack of making a pigs ear of any task I keep putting off starting.
