mounting givi top case

Post by marine dad »

i need some input from you guys. i bought an 1150r a week ago, and have put about 600 miles on it so far and it is great. dont know why i ever bought all those harleys over the years, lol. anyway, the bike came with a givi topcase and mount already mounted. i have purchased system cases and mounts, and from what i can tell, i will need to remove the topcase mount in order for the side case mounts to bolt on. the mount for the top case bolts into the forward slot for the side case mount, and there is no way to bolt both peices into the same bolt hole. i am going to mount the system cases even if i have to lose the top case, but i am sure there is a way to mount the givi top case also. can someone help me out?
thanks

If you have the GS/1100R style mounts, you may have a hard time finding anything that will attach with the mounts in place. It was for this same reason that I just bought the 1150r style mounts and rack. That being said, if you happen upon a "cure" let us know - I prefer the looks of the GS mounts.

Hi Mike...Gary here... (the guy that sold MarineDad the racks). I hope they work out for you with the GIVI. FWIW, I had a GIVI rack on my 96 850R that worked well with these BMW mounts. It had two arms that bolted right alongside (actually inside IIRC) the mounts and held the topcase. I'm not familiar with the current set-up GIVI is using. I'd hate to think you need to fabricate something else...worst case, send 'em back I'll refund your $ if they're not going to work out.

I just noticed a Hepco Becker rack on fleabay that, according to the guys description, may work for you. The link may help you identify the rack.

gary,
man, the mounts you sent are excellent. i will need a different top case mount if i decide to keep the top case, but i am considering just selling the givi and going with an oem top case. putting on my touring screen and the side cases in the a.m. and will have a better idea then about the givi. i'd much rather be able to use the system cases than the givi anyway :D
thanks

Givi makes a mount that intergrates into the system case mounts. All you do is swap out the pice that sits above the tail light, with the givi mount. I found fine at twisted throttle..com

Hey Marine Dad ~~~
How did you make out?

I have an '04 R1150R as well.
Luggage Rack/ System Cases.
I hope you kept your Givi E52, as more room, the
better!

I just received my Givi E52 Maxia TopCase, and have
the appropriate Givi Topcase Rack, it is a Givi SR683,
made specifically for our bike.

Here is the link for Twisted Throttle, in Rhode Island;
http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/pr ... w/789/246/

You should give Matt at Twisted Throttle a call and he'll explain each step
of a Givi Case installation, and rack installation.

Has anyone installed the Admore Light Kit inside their Givi Maxia E52?

Thanks from Long Island!

Unless you're carrying tools ro a lot of liquid, the 1150R pannier rails, and the side arms for the OE rear rack are strong enough to carry a topbox by themselves. :)
