just got my new toy

Post by gibbo111 »

hi there , Just saying hi to everyone been lurking here for a couple of weeks ,but got my 12r last week . Its BM no 7 for me ,had a 1150gsa prior, but this is more my style. Cant beleive what a great bike to ride this is just so nimble. Mine is basic just with heated grips- thats what I wanted, bought it as a repairable write off - just plastic damage mostly got it back to new except for a dent in the tank which will be repaired soon , but cant keep off it at the moment , nicer bike to ride than my 1100s which I really liked to, anyway nice to be here .Cheers Paul

Hi Paul!

Welcome to this very international forum!! :D
And congratulations with you new bike! Exellent choice!
What makes it you to prefer above a GS Adventure???
I thougt for Australia a GSA is supposed to be the best choice? ;)

Funny you insisted on heated grips......in a warm area like Queensland ;)
I've been there.....diving of course!! Wunderfull climate!!! =P~

Enjoy your R1200R!!!!!!

thanks, the gsa was to big for me . I'm only 5ft 8 in tall and found it to hard to throw around and i couldnt flat feet it like i can on the 12r. I use the heated grips for about 4 months of the year . We dont get very cold here so I dont prepare very well for it. Have done some diving on the reef when I lived in north Qld some years ago . Now i skydive instead- got to keep the rush coming!!

My little running-in trip a year ago was into Queensland ...

in at Hebel / St George

up through Roma and the Carnarvon Range
http://picasaweb.google.com.au/billstan ... 5292775938
and out via Gladstone and Seventeen Seventy (with the must-do run around Kilcoy - Somerset Dam & Gatton -Warwick):

.. and I had to use the heated grips from St George to Roma ... September, but a bit bleak (at least we brought the rain)

and then down to the Snowies for a little relief ...

The R12R is proving a great Aussie distance bike (off to Phillip Island for the Moto GP in two days, yay) ..... I think it'd be perfect for Qld, for the long transport sections between twisty bits (I simply couldn't ride an RxxS for any distance at all, let alone Qld distances) .. I think you'll fund the original ride position is reasonably sporty - I had to straighten my knees with lower pegs and my back with bar-risers to get to a more "touring" posture (I'm a gent of average height, too). I use and Airhawk to improve seat comfort (Corbin on the way - not the ideal choice but we'll see ... ) and Wilbers suspension is way better than stock ..

-- and I'd be fitting an oilcooler screen ASAP!
