You can try a sheepskin butt pad, or try a Sargent seat. I have the butt pad, and have been comfy.

I have been enjoying my Sargent, however, it needs to bake in the sun until it becomes squishy like you want. An Airhawk will get you where you need to be: squishy and supportive. I have one of those as well, and use on longer trips. Start there (or the sheepskin) and see how that works. Then upgrade the saddle if you need more.

You don't need a softer seat. You need a harder butt.
Take a 2x4 about a foot long and sit on it at work all day for practice...the edge of it...not the flat side.

After the same basic complaint, and some research, I happened to hear about these guys.

Granted, the seats aren't as "sleek" as many of the others, but I, too, am tired of feeling
like I've been straddling a log.

This is on the top of my spring list for my bike.

I am in the same boat (or should I say on the same fence). I'm a skinny guy and want to know if anybody has carved out some of the foam from the stock seat. It seems that the stocker has too much crown or hump to it. Anybody had luck with a modification?? :-k

Well, if you got money burning a hole in your pocket, the Daylong is a good option, but if you're a cheap bastid like me, spend $5.00 and try this first:

I submit to you that most of the problem with the R1150R seats is the fact that they are not flat.... but if you have the tall seat, there's no saving that one without major surgery.

I use and recommend the Airhawk, but here's an article with some comparisons:

(I've never tried a sheepskin.)

I second the airhawk. If used correctly it is the best thing to avoid the pressure points when riding. I have not had any issue with my butt when riding, however I know some people with airhawks whow have tried the sheepskin and gel seats and said that nothing compares.

+1 on the Sargent.

My main reason for looking for a replacement seat was to have my wife come along. With the stock seat she could only stand about 30 miles. She described it as extreemly uncomfortable with a lot of pressure on her tailbone. We tried the AirHawk and that didn't help. I believe the problem with the stock seat is that they are convex (domed).

After watching this forum for awhile, it appeared that the only seat that didn't have someone posting negative comments was the Sargent. Members selling them, were only doing so because they had traded / sold their bikes, and were trying to recoup some of their investment. That combined with Sargent's 30 day money back guarantee made it a logical choice.

It took a full 9 weeks to get the seat straight from Sargent. Compared to the stock seat it is wider and convex (dished). It showed up for Columbus day weekend. We rode the Catskills and the Adirondacks, about 800 miles over 3 days with zero complaints. I also found benefit in the shape of the Sargent eliminated some "male" anatomical circulation impact that the stock seat was causing in the 300 mile duration range.

I'm 6'2, 235 and have an '02 R1150R. I rode it last summer with the stock seat and couldn't go for more that 45 minutes with out standing up while riding or just having to get off and rest my rump. I finally broke down and treated myself to a custom leather Rick Meyers seat. He was having a sale on BMW seats in the month of October. I can't tell you how incredibly happy I am. It's like going from sleeping on a small pile of rocks to a temper-pedic bed. Pure bliss. If you can afford it, do it! Good luck.

Sargent seat was comfy but still not enough for my boney rearend, so added an Alaska sheepskin pad ($50) and worked wonders.
