ABS lamp flashing and a relay ticking at start!

Post by Robert_winter_1000 »

Hello all,

Up till this afternoon everything was OK in the bike. My R1150R 2002 just has been serviced by the BMW dealer for this year. I went to have a ride for few hours then stopped to have a lunch. When back, I turned the ignition key before starting, I hear a relay ticking and the ABS lamp flashing (first very fast then slower) it sound like the relay of the parking lamp. After driving few meters everything went back to normal and the ABS lamp went off till I off the motor and starting it back, then I get the same story. The battery is oem 2 years old.

Anyone had such a situation before? Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Robert

If all the lights go out after moving a few meters, everything is perfect. You must get moving for the wheel sensors to test themselves. The flashing lights at start-up just indicate that the ABS system is doing its self-diagnostic routine.
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...

I just stepped into the garage and turned the key on because I didn't remember the quick flashing. It's normal. Mine always works just as you're described.
I don't get caught in the rain, I ride in it on purpose.

The ABS is doing a self test, I think it's complete (light will go out) at about 5 mph. The owners manual talks about it. Your bike is good :smt023
