The local Hysong dealer stocks a brand of topcase I've never heard before - "Shad". I wonder how they decided on that name. Anyway they are sort of a Givi knockoff. I don't mean that in a bad way because the quality is pretty good and the price is right, less than $100 including the mounting bracket.
First I painted my BMW parts black. I didn't like the silver, which had aged quickly. My bike must have spent a lot of time in the sun.
Here is the Shad mount installed on the BMW topcase rack. The generic Shad mounting system is very adaptable but I needed to buy 4 longer bolts because the BMW rack is pretty thick.
I don't care for the look of the bike with the topcase but I only plan to use it when I go grocery shopping or need to carry a rain suit. None of the other brands of topcase would look any better. The reflector does not have a bulb inside for a second brake light.
The unit has a lock but you can use it unlocked too. It's similar to the Givi in the sense that it's not immediately obvious how it works. Sort of a mini IQ test. I bought a small unit because that's all I wanted. They have a 50 liter model. The 29 liter unit I bought will hold a full face helmet.
