What a Difference a seat makes

Post by motorcityrider »

I just installed the "high" OEM seat on my 03 R and what a huge difference it makes. The previous owner told me the bike had the high seat installed, so I never gave it a second thought. I am 5'10" and it's a major comfort improvement for me.

p.s. I now have a perfect condition low seat for sale.

Folks are different, so what works for one may not for the other. The stock seat was fine on my rear end but cramped my worn out knees on long trips. Borrowed a friends high seat and it helped my knees greatly but hurt my butt after only a hundred miles! Too narrow for me!

My answer has been a Sargent seat. Good support on the butt and enough extra height to relieve the knees! Glad you found a cheaper solution.

How do you tell which seat you have on your bike? Judging by the picture above, mine is not a high seat. Mine has a pronounced forward slope to it. Standard or low? How do I tell?

The low seat has the slope , and the high seat is pretty much flat.

TNoutback, if you could post a picture, I'm sure we could take a guess....or maybe a part number.

Just to clarify, there are three BMW seat heights, a low one and a high one. Plus, there is the middle one which doesn't count as a seat height because it is the standard. ;)

(if you don't get my joke above, please disregard)
I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...

There is what appears to be a part number stamped on the underside of the seat within a rectangle. There is the BMW logo, then the numbers "2 328 718", followed underneath that with, ">PP-TV20<". A couple inches below that is the word "SHAD". Would I assume from "SHAD" being there (also considering the BMW logo stamp above) that they were the OEM manufacturer of the seat for BMW?
