WHAT PAINT SCHEME?

Post by Hollywood »

Where there any custom or limited Rockster paint jobs?

I know about the Rockster 80, Bobs, Blackster. What about the one from Paycheck? is that the movie it was in?

I am looking at getting one since I sold my R1100S on Monday.

That would be the paint scheme of my bike i believe :) I think that Ohlins looks sexy in this picture too :P I had to check the clip online from Paycheck and I love the in-line 4 dub over they did.

The OE colour schemes were :
Copper(Bronze) / Black
Apple Green / Black
Black / White (Edition 80)
Metallic Grey / Darker Metallic Grey (Last year of production, European market only (afaik))

There's all sorts of custom schemes, from simply removing the green/bronze stickers and repainting the coloured bits - to full on re-sprays - do some google searching. :)

No matter the color you get, know that the flat black paint is very delicate (in my experience) and seems to scratch easily. It then shows the white primer below. I got a few new scratches this past weekend from my tank bag....probably had debris under it and scratched when I pulled the bag off to refuel :(. I just used a sharpee marker to color in the scratch.

I bought a 2004 Rockster Bank-repo last week(542 miles total). Delivered on Thursday. The tank and side body panels are custom painted. Including the spark plug covers painted to match. Its glossy black with the metallic orange stripes with silver pinstriping.

So, question, what is a Blackster? I ask because I suspect that is the paint scheme I have - all back plastics with a chequered flag motif across the oil cooler covers, along with blue frame, cylinder head covers, forks and wheels:

I've never seen one like it and can find no info on the net. Anyone got any details on the scheme?

Cheers

Deffo a custom job.

Possibly done by a dealer - possibly not. (unless you've owned the bike from new???)

I'm guessing custom now, I'm not the first owner and the V5 lists the bike as black/orange.

Yet another addition the original owner made :D

Take a look at the wonderfull German Rocksterforum; http://rockster-forum.freiforum.com/forum.htm
Click "Gallerie" ( http://picasaweb.google.com/rocksterforumgalerie )
Especially interesting; the wonderfull styling-job "kingfreddi" did on his standard R1150R (I'm now working on an identical headlight-conversion on my own Rock)

Try this one. Here is my new ride. Custom paint on the tank and side panels. Silver pin stripes between gloss black and the orange. What is the orange official color name anyway?

Hopefully this works.

Ha!! I saw that bike up at Hughenden M40 a few weeks back. Looks good. And more amazingly I test rode it when it was up for sale at North Oxford BMW about two years ago, or was it three? I asked the sales bod at Oxford about the colours and he assured me that it was factory paint** but didn't know why it had been done or who had done it.

** which explains why the fork legs were all blistered and festy :(

so do you guys paint it yourselves? I'd like to try my hand at it. I was trying to look into places to buy paint, any suggestions?

Well. Hubby has repainted his R65 airhead. He used BMW car colors. You can buy "rattle cans" of all the BMW colors either online or perhaps from your local dealer.

It looks pretty good. His R1100RS is red, he found a really close match from the car catalog, for "Hans." I'll post pictures, once HE does.

It's a custom job and is easily done, as I did a similar colour scheme on mine. First, I pealed away all the vinyl decals from the tank and rear/side panels under the seat. I then painted the (2) oil cooler covers and bikini fairing/instrument cover matt black to match the rest of the bike. I then sent my wheels out and had them powder coated gloss black. A picture of my Rockster below...

Scott, nice looking Rockster! The metallic blue and flat black work well together.

I'm considering repainting my Edn80's valve covers from the OE "mismatch" blue (obviously not same paint as the OE subframe, Telelever arm, headlight nacelle) to gloss black as match for the white/black color scheme. But still just "considering"...
