Really Don, you above all the other members of this forum are the best equipped rider to analyze these new offerings. Some of us still have nothing to compare them to.

Perhaps you might consider the mid size which Wunderlich recommends for riders 1.7 meters tall. That's equal to 66.9291339 inches.

You would really be doing the rest of us medium sized riders a great service.

Since Wunderlich tends to be a reseller of this sort of thing - wonder who really makes this one and if it's available cheaper.

It looks similar to a Cal Sci shield. It's a shame they don't have images of it from multiple angles.

Don ... this windshield caught my attention months ago. Does Wunderlich offer the mounting frame with the shield for the $300.00 price? It looks as if the 3 shields all use the same mounting frame. I think it is a polycarb material.
... you mustn't resist ... you need this shield. This is the one. Keep us updated.

It looks almost exactly like the Givi screen I own. Not a bad screen. Too hot for me in the summer. I didn't have anything to compare it to but I just bought a standard BMW Touring Screen and will mount and ride with it soon.

As I noted I think.. Wunderlich doesn't make screens as far as I know (their VarioScreen, which I own, is made by MRA) so it wouldn't surprise me if this one is made by Givi (and available LOTS cheaper from Givi..)

If you're not going to be using it for a bit.. I'd pay shipping to try it out (in the spring, it's a tad nippy here for riding at the moment - 26F..)

Is listed for the R12R - and available painted gloss or flat black for $221.00 (free shipping!) No details on how it mounts - would have to call them to find out. Dimensions given at CompAcces site indicate short and wide (16"H x 26"W) which might work for people who don't have hand-guards..

Also I called Wunderlich ... they claim the windshields all fit one frame..??? And that a shield could be bought by itself at a reduced price... estimated at $200.00

Sounds about like the Cee-Bailey shields - they all fit the BMW touring shield frame. So.. that gives you a choice of three different heights.

Wonder if we can get a sideview of the shield/mount to see what the angle looks like..

If you look on MRA's website, you'll see the Varioshield is almost straight upright, which I suspect is why is was SUCH a noisy/turbulent shield..

If you go to: http://www.mrashop.de/mrashop/mra/catal ... C18%2C0%29 and then select the R1200R, you'll see the MRA choices..

I tried using it with the BMW Touring Screen mount, which probably had it about at the same angle. WAY too upright IMHO.. and it has the kick at the top edge (same as many other screens including the Cee-Bailey) which I'm pretty much convinced is a bad idea for noise/turbulence.

I kinda like the looks of the third one down.
Don , Remind me in the Spring and we will do what you said and you can try it out. It looks just like the one in the picture.

Don ... It seems Vario and Givi both mount using simular methods. My main doubt about either is the way the shield connect to the bike. However several at r1150r net buy and use both these brands so the mounting methods must be good. Because someone would complain. Vario and Givi have some sport shield I would buy. Like the yellow Givi .. sharp.
I'll try Givi and see if I can get the install instructions.
Wunderlich offers pdf files detailing install instructions for many of thier products; but I haven't found any other information about thier shields except the pictures you listed. A pdf file of mounting instructions on the Wunderlich shields might give another view.
Also some threads mention good things about BMW's windshields and the wunderlich look like BMW shield. The BMW shield I saw had terrible distortion.???
Also Parabellum's web sight show the Sport Shield R1200R to have little distoration at $230.00.??

Robert - nature of the beast. The BMW Touring shield is rather sharply curved, some distortion is natural. The BMW Sport Screen has "folds" in it as part of it's shape.. be hard not to have optical distortion in it.

That said - you aren't supposed to be looking through either of these.. especially the sport screen that's only a few inches higher than the instrument cluster. Remember the MSF mantra - look where you want to go - and 3 feet in front of the bike isn't where you want to go (unless parking it..)

I just finished installing a Vario screen. I'll see how it works tomorrow. The mounting hardware Wunderlich supplied is different from that shown in the picture above. The arms pivot from a bolt that replaces the one just forward of the triple tree. The mounting kit also includes brackets to relocate the stock turn signals. Also, the pictures that accompany the installation instructions aren't particularly good. I'll try to post some better ones over the weekend.

I have just mounted on my bike what many of you started with and already have discarded, the large or touring BMW R1200R windshield. I have not had much chance to test is out but I like the looks of it. Sort of broad and low.

I hope it works for you Mark, for me (5'-10", 32" inseam) it put the windblast right in the middle of my helmet.

A tipped back 18" Cee Bailey (same mounts) is more to my liking for the weather this time of year. Yay Gerbings!
