'04 R1150R ABS Servo
This past week I replaced the brake shoes on my wife's '04 R1150R w/ABS. I followed the instructions to a 'T'. It's been a while since I had my '04 RT with servo, but I think I might have a servo problem on the '04 R. When I push the rear brake pedal all the way down (bottoms out), the servo stops. This obviously reduces the amount of pressure being applied to the rear brake.
Is this normal? (the front does not do this, the servo's keep going). I'm not sure if I somehow still have air in the ABS unit (I didn't see any more bubbles as I went through the system), but you never know. I was thinking that maybe I need to adjust the linkage, but I'm not sure that would have anything to do with servo.
Is this normal? If not, anybody have any ideas?
I did some digging around on this board, but didn't find anything related to the servos.

The rear brake does that. If your sitting at a light and need to apply brake, use the rear if you can, you won't have to listen to the pump.

Well I did not know that, I will try it tomorrow, I have often wondered about wear and tear when stopped on a hill, now I know.

Re: '04 R1150R ABS Servo
...hmmm...another ABS mystery...
Mine is an o4.
I always hear it under typical usage. If I press it MUCH MUCH harder than I would while actually moving...mine will shut off too. If I let off the pressure some, the servo kicks back on.
I also remember being alarmed about this when the bike was new (when I first noticed this). That was almost 6 years ago.
I just figured that it was programmed to do this... some sort of "maximum pressure cut off". Maybe the engineers figured that if you applied so much pressure with "residual braking"... and sitting stationary...that there was no need to make the servo pump work extra hard.
Although, I truly have no clue on what was going through the minds of the people that designed this ABS system.
Maybe I am wrong and my brakes have been faulty since it was new. I've never had any warning lights or problems with my brakes.

The dealer was who pointed it out to me when I bought my 04 new. I hear the pump for a few seconds when using only rear brake, then it just stops. I was concerned about wear and tear on the system too.The rear brake does that. If your sitting at a light and need to apply brake, use the rear if you can, you won't have to listen to the pump.

Re: '04 R1150R ABS Servo
I do know they used some different servos depending on the year. I wonder if that would explain why some people's are acting differently.

Re: '04 R1150R ABS Servo
I'm not positive about when the change happened, but the ABS module was changed. I think it happened between the 03 and 04 models.

Re: '04 R1150R ABS Servo
My original pump died at about 9K miles and three years old, and when it was replaced I was told it was an updated model with two-stage operation. Granted I don't have any really good way to verify that, but the sound is noticeably different - there's the normal whine when the brakes are used lightly and then a much louder and lower whine when you grab hard.
I don't notice the pump sound going away when stepping on the rear brake firmly, but I can't say I've ever stomped on it really hard.

Re: '04 R1150R ABS Servo
Sorry richierex but I thought my 2004 R1150RS was close enough to join in on the conversation. I'll pay closer attention next time before I wiggle my fingers over the keyboard. Has your application for Board Admin been answered yet?

Re: '04 R1150R ABS Servo
The original poster said that he had a 2004 R1150R and we have now found that there may have been a change in the way the servo operates, some do, some dont and some dont know if they do.
It is my opinion that a 2004 R1150R does stop making the noise when the rear pedal is pressed hard and i will stick by this as a fact, no doubt about it. I hope it helps.
Go out to the garage and try it, it should only take a minute and then you can offer a definative answer to the original question.
I did not know that you had to be a board admin to tell it like it is and not as you think it might be

LEFT ON AS IT MAY HELP THE ORIGINAL POSTER AND NOT GRATIFY ANY NEED TO SHOW HOW CLEVER WE ARE
