Hi all.
I need a holiday! So I´ve decided to buy a 2004 R1150RT and go for a scoot around France, Spain, Germany etc, just see how far I get kind of thing. I don´t know hardly anything about the beasts, I haven´t ridden a BMW since my mates old 800 job about ten or twelve years ago but this one´s really taken my fancy so sod it, off we go.
Couple of things I´d like to know before jumping on if poss.
One : Is the seat hight adjustable by your average joe or do you have to present the bike at a main dealer who´ll probaby plug in a laptop and do it that way? Then charge you lots of beer vouchers for the pleasure.
Two : What´s the lowest seat hight you can get away with? (Riding one up with not too much junk) I´m a bit short arsed so it´ll probably be quite character forming in traffic, but then I can always lean on a van or something.
And three : Can you change the headlight beam orientation for driving on the right without pulling it all apart? Some vehicles, Audi cars for example have external levers at the back of the light boxes, just wondering if the RT has anything like that.
Any advice would be just groovy,
Thanks in advance - mucklepilly.

Seat is not adjustable, there are three seats available, short, regular and high. Owners exchange seats quite often, a dealer might want your seat as well.

I think the low seat is 30.5" to the ground. Check wit a dealer.

Nope, the headlight outside glass is specific to the country, You will need to swap the glass or the whole light bucket.
Good luck

This is the R1150R subforum - there is a different section for R1150RT discussions.
I believe boxermania thought you were talking about an R1150R.

Re: Crossing the ditch
The RT seat comes in two OEM versions - comfort (heigher) and low.
Each is adjustable.
comfort seat: 800 / 825 / 845 mm (31.49 x 32.48 x 33.26 in)
low: 780 / 800 / 820 mm (30.70 x 31.49 x 32.28 in)
To gain access to the adjusting mechanism remove both pillion and rider seats. The three stage adjusting mechanism is clearly visible and easily set - no laptop needed!
Can't help you with the headlight.

Re: Crossing the ditch
Yeah, BMW makes a "comfort" seat which is an option at extra cost, or you can go with the standard:"discomfort" seat.

Re: Crossing the ditch
Assuming you're in the UK you''ll find that a lot of bike shops keep beam adjusters in stock.
You see them all the time on cars coming from and going to Europe. Failing that there may be
a source of second hand lenses at place like Sherlocks. Google for BMW spares and you'll find them.
Have a good trip!
