A Very Private Gentleman (now "The American" on screen)
Just read this book (review here: http://www.boston.com/ae/books/articles ... g_boredom/) and found it pleasantly engaging. And after ruminating on it for a few days, I had the realization that the level of attentiveness assassin's-gun-maker Signor Farfalla must put into watching for "shadow dwellers", intrigue and threats is the same level of unbroken attentiveness one must bring to the road on a motorcycle - keep eyes on everything & trust no one. The book's a few years old now; I haven't seen the film yet, but I suspect the book will remain the better of the two, given its pace and introspective approach. Will be interesting to see how Italy and the cast of characters have been rendered... Martin Booth did a great job with the novel.

You know, not to be insulting or anything, but this is a pretty boring forum compared to http://www.f800riders.org where I came from. If we can only talk about the bike & nothing else here, I'm not going to bother contributing much of anything.
Actually, the problem as I see it is we're just a tributary on a forum that's still built around an obsolete, discontinued bike - the R1150R. Nice bike and all, but why don't we have a real forum for the R1200R?

You can discuss anything you want in the Patrick's Playhouse forum at the bottom of the index.

I think this forum is just right. We do drift a little at times but generally their has been a lot of good information about the R1200R put out on this forum. If someone wants to BS or just put his mindless dribble on the internet for all to see I'm sure their are places for that. If I want mindless dribble or BS I can get that on the 6 O'Clock news or locally, I come here for information and insight on one of the best bikes I've ever thrown my leg over.

Thread moved to Off-topic as a matter of housekeeping.
Discussions are fine, but for organizational purposes, and keeping the board "tidy", we have sections of topics.

Freedom is dangerous. Those in power that steal freedom are more dangerous.

While I appreciate a good book recommendation as much as anyone, I can't disagree more on:
I am a member of both forums since I now own the F658GS. I have never been more bored in my life with the discussions over at that forum. There is some useful discussion there for sure, but for the most part I have found way too many stuffed shirts and novices who like to spend bandwidth discussing a lot of silly and mundane topics unrelated to the bikes. You know, not to be insulting or anything, but this is a pretty boring forum compared to http://www.f800riders.org where I came from.
