Removing keyed ignition

Okay, so this is for the wiring guru's out there:

Is there a way to remove the need for the key in the ignition to turn the bike on? I'm thinking something along the lines of wiring a switch to work in place of the switch the key activates, and so remove the need for a key to star the bike.

PS. Those of you without anything productive to offer, please spare me the "it'll make it easier to steal" lecture, thank you.

Why do you want to dispense with the key?

No specific reason. I'll still keep the key for the bags and the helmet latch/seat release, just want to get rid of the key for the ignition portion of the bike.

I just leave my key in the ignition 99% of the time. I'm not too worried about theft. With the key always in, it works just like a switch (with a couple of unused positions). I never use the steering head lock or the parking lights.

I've thought about getting one of those bmw roundel things...below... that mounts onto the flat key. Leave it in all the time, works like a switch, doesn't look like a key. I really don't need another bmw advertisement on my bike... a squirt of paint would cover that logo up.



Yes, you could make a pretty simple "hot-wire" switch (I've never looked into it). I'm sure it will take a fair amount of time, to do a decent job. I am far to lazy to do all that work, when I can just leave the key in. If you want all the functionality (steering head lock, parking light) of the original key switch... that would be much more difficult.

Many years ago I had a problem with the ignition switch on my K 100RS.
Two wires and one switch "hot-wire" and I was in business.
After I sold the that bike, took me over a month to find that key.
I am sure R1150R will be just as easy as it was K 100RS.
Somehow I never looked at that option.
