Newbie here with parts questions

Post by livinlife11 »

I am fixing up a 2002 R1150R I bought, it needs entire headlight assembly and instrument cluster and housing and left cylinder head and cover. What models/years for compatible parts can I search for?
Thanks!

Hi there unknown ...

the headlight assembly/instrument cluster of other models is not compatible. The only ones compatible will be those of a later R850R. With regards to cylinder head and cover it depends on whether you have a twin- or single-spark model. You can do a comparison of the part no's of different models at realoem (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?lang=enUS).

Not sure which country you are in. If in the US the following sources are usually good.

Beemer Boneyard, under oilheads, http://www.beemerboneyard.com
BMW owners of America, under flea market, http://www.bmwmoa.org
Internet BMW riders, under the marketplace, http://www.ibmwr.org

@Wanda

If its a single spark in principle all valve covers from R1100/R850 models will fit. Obviously also the the same parts from any 1150 single spark model. With regards to the cylinder heads I am not sure if the camshafts/valves were changed between the 1100 series and the 1150 series. Hence I would stick to the 1150 single spark models (GS/RT/R).

For used parts you might also want to check e-b**.com where you'll usually find plenty of that stuff.
