Since we all seem to have the same opinion of the stock seat on our R1200R's, I thought I would post this here. I use bicycle shorts with a padded chamois, but I bet this would work well too.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects handlebars to the saddle.

Reading between the lines of the article, maybe all we need is a layer of subcutaneous fat.

Re: sitrelief shorts
I've done a few 300 mile days on my bike sinceI bought it about a month ago, and I don't understand all the complaining about the stock seat.
That said, I've seen claims that the 2011 comes stock with the "comfort seat" which may be true. I also ride in leathers when I'm going more than just around town or on a short buzz somewhere and that makes a HUGE difference in comfort/endurance on any bike. If I was riding in jeans or textile pants, I'd wear bike shorts but I'd rather be appropriately geared up.
I'm heading out for a four day ride tomorrow morning, so maybe my opinion will change. Hope not, though!

I bought a Airhawk 2 cushion for a ride I did this year back in June up the Dempster Hwy to Inuvik on my 650 V Strom. I rode 9,000 km in 11 days and the Airhawk was a real butt saver and I suffered no ill effects from doing all of this riding with the Airhawk 2. I now use the Airhawk 2 on my 2009 R1200R and now do not feel the need to go to a different saddle on the R. Price of these Airhawk 2's was around $180 but I ended up getting a brand new one on e bay for $89. The Airhawk actually doesn't look to bad on the R.

Somehow I don't think that is an issue for many of us

Well, I thought I had well hardened "biker's bum", but picked up my new (to me, it's a 2009) R1200R yesterday and had an 80 mile run home. That seat is an instrument of torture, it has to go! Or, at least it has to go off to a seat guy and have a gel pad inserted. Cracking bike though, love it so far!
