Quick question on exhaust mount hardware

Post by crazyhorse »

I recently changed my rear tire at home and only hand tightened the rear exhaust bracket hardware by the passenger footpeg (forgot to finish the job), resulting in that hardware falling off somewhere on the freeway. Luckily my muffler did not fall off and I noticed it shortly after.

I have a ZTechnic exhaust and though the mounting hardware was the same as the BMW hardware. I ordered parts from Bob's BMW and now that they have arrived it looks like I am still missing a part - which makes me wonder if there is a different setup for the ZTechnic.

I have #6, 5 and 8 from this fiche, however I need the 'nut' part for the hex bolt and I can't tell if it's attached to the stock bracket or if I order #4 it will be a loose back bolt. I think I recall the ZTechnic having a back bracket with threads similar to #5 since the exhaust is held up with a simple flat tab with a hole through it.

Thanks in advance, if I've lost a custom piece I'll just have to make something up but I don't want to order more spendy BMW bolts if I won't be using them.

Wes,

The nut is integral with the around-the-muffler clamp. The fiche picture isn't clear, but I think that clamp is part #3: P/N 18127671494.
