Just Ordered My Bike Today

Post by fleuger99 »

Hi All,

This is my first post here and a very exciting one. :D

I ordered a 2012 R1200R today as I didn't want some of the standard equipment package contents and did want other options. The bike I ordered is:

Base Model in Matt Grey
Safety Pkg
Heated Grips
TPM
O/B Computer
Luggage Rack with Bag mounts

I've been looking to get a new bike for the last year or so and originally was going to buy a F800ST but saw an R1200R at the dealer. After test riding both bikes last weekend I knew it would be the R1200R.

Looking forward to contributing to this great forum down the road and learning lots from others. It is going to be a tough and long winter.

Here is the ordering/price guide for the 2012 R1200R

So, you decided to take the 1200 plunge, Craig? Good call, you'll not regret it I'm sure. I'm "Growing" into mine now, weather here in UK has improved a bit so been out the last 2 days and love it more each time I ride it. As much as I liked the ST this is in another league altogether, much more substantial feeling. Keep us posted as to when you get yous and send us some pics with your thoughts about ownership when you've settled with it.

Let's see how many ST forumites we can lure over to this side

Hey Dewi,

Funny to meet you here :-) Yes, we should start a major campaign on the F800 Forum to lure them over LOL! I noticed when I posted my test ride comparison on the F800 forum it was received with a "cool reception".

I'm really excited but have a long wait for the bike. It is always good to have something to look forward to though. I'll be sure to post pics and thoughts once I've been able to experience the bike. I've already started Farkle hunting online. There goes my wallet.

Congrats on the new bike, I had the Megamoto and now I am transitioning to the R, I test rode the bike a couple of months ago and was really impressed.

How long is the estimated wait time? I will also order the bike with what I want on it.

Cheers!

Good to see new blood here (guys/gals with low post counts). That means people are purchasing these wonderful bikes. I'm very happy with mine at the 12.5K mark. Welcome aboard!

fleuger99,
Congratulations! When do you take delivery?

Just coming up on 1 week old for my bike... virtually the same bike as yours.

Hey, just note (..that I might draw laughter..or worse, from some…) 8-[ . Bring a cotton rag with you when you pickup the bike and wipe down the headers, from the heads to maybe 12 inches along the bend to remove any finger/hand prints from the techs. That way, when the headers heat up and naturally discolor, you won’t have the initial blotches.

I commuted to work today. Outstanding is the only description I have at this point. My wife and I plan to take a ride down to Glenrose, TX tomorrow for a burger @ Hollywood and Vine. It’s a nice ride with big sweepers. I’m a bit concerned about the tires not being fully scrubbed in, but will take it easy.
Will try to post some shots from this inaugural two-up ride !

Thanks for the heads up regarding the finger/hand prints on the headers.

The bike will arrive sometime in mid to late Jan so I'm going to hold off on delivery until Mar/Apr as in Jan we'll probably have over a foot of snow on the ground so I see no point in getting the bike and letting it sit in my garage for three to four months and have to register and insure it for that.

My dealer said that BMW builds bikes in certain order. Meaning, they don't build all models all the time, there are cycles of production. Depending when one orders and when that model goes into production determines when one get's their bike. Best case is two months and worst case is four months. That is why I decided to order early so that when Mar/Apr roles around I'll have the bike and can start riding it versus waiting beyond that.

Like you, I also decided to order to get exactly what I wanted and nothing I didn't. Good luck with yours. :D
