Priced right?

Post by slowtorque »

I have tried to price this fairly despite being very fond of the bike. Let me know what you think:

2004 R1150R in Titan Silver, 16.2k miles, all service documented and current, new rear tire, 60% left on front, never dropped or wrecked, wired for GPS. All stock with Speedster windshield. $4800

I don't know what the preferred source for motorcycle valuation is. A cursory look at NADA reveals that they have not invested much on motorcycle valuation as compared to KBB. Thoughts?

The 2 categories for the 04 R are ABS and Non ABS, as ABS was a factory "option" in 03-04.

This will slightly affect the price, and not including this in the listing guarantees this will be the first question you get about the bike.

Good point. It does have ABS and that was stated in my ad, I just neglected to translate here. NADA values the option at several hundred dollars. I'd say most buyers would want it; a few would not. Thanks

I would love to trade saddlebag rails. I have the GS ones, and now that my wife rides with me I am looking at the regular rails, so I can hunt down a backrest for her.

At 4800.00, I would be happy to buy it for that, anyway, Iam not in the market at the minute. My point is with the maint.,the bags, windshield ,and low miles, I think you are too low on what your asking. Should be more like 5600.00-5900.00

Well, I did have the fellow look at it last nite. He is a new rider and a bit vertically challenged, and we both agreed despite his being impressed with the condition of the bike that he best start with something smaller. I have taken the bike off the market and will keep it. I was relieved that this sale did not work out. Sometimes you have to come close to losing something to realized how much you really want to keep it.

Good move deciding to keep the bike I sold mine a couple of years ago and have regretted it from day one.

I sold my '02 R1150R and replaced it with an '08 R1200R, have not regretted it for a second. I loved the R1150R except for surging and shifting issues. But the R1200R is superior in almost every way. It is an amazing machine; by far the nicest bike I've ever owned.

I do miss the instrument panel layout on the R1150R though. And overall the R1150R was a bit better looking in some ways.

I figure I can ride the wheels off mine (and then buy new wheels) and still be able to get nearly what I was asking for this (when I just recently nearly "gave it away").

I paid a couple grand more a year ago for my 04 but it only had 3,000 miles on it.

Fwiw I just bought an '02 with same miles and perhaps better options - minus abs - for $5400. I bought in Seattle where boats, bikes and cars always seem to cost more than elsewhere in the U S. the owner was fastidious with care and maintenance. Maybe could have low-balled him and saved a few $$s, but felt good with the offer considering the shape of the bike and the PO owner.

Question for "slowtorque" ... how do you like the Aeroflow kit on your bike? Which one is it ... touring or sport? Also, are those the tank wings in the photo. My biggest question is how long does it take to install and remove the kit?

When cruising interstate, I'd LOVE to have a faux-fairing. But most of the time, running around town, errands, country roads ... I prefer the naked bike feel and wind. My last bike (non-BMW) had a Memphis Shades windshield that was on and off in about 15 seconds. That's what I'd like for my '04 R11150R, but havent found such a thing yet.

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Re: Priced right? wrt Aeroflow

Post by slowtorque »

Well, I can tell you that I am absolutely thrilled with the Aeroflow. My bike came with the Sport screen which uses the same mounting bracket as the BMW Touring screen. It was simply awful. As was the stock seat.

Looking for a solution, I started out with the Sport fairing with the tank wings and later added Aeroguards and a Touring fairing. The latter are for winter use here in NC. This package along with my Bill Mayer saddle have made this the most comfortable motorcycle I have ever ridden. I simply love it. I am sorry to say, however, that the mounting frame is no longer available from Aeroflow so you'll have to find a used one if you desire one.

I can remove the Aeroflow frame with screen in place and reinstall my BMW screen (but why?) in about twenty minutes, easily. I had initially asked about this task here on the forum before purchasing. I also asked Aeroflow and was told 45 minutes or so. I bought it anyway and took my chances. Honestly, I think my dog could likely do it in 30 minutes, and he has Attention Deficit Disorder.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. I am a believer in the Aeroflow for this bike. Future bike buying decisions will take into account whether an Aeroflow is available for the particular model or not. It's that good.
