R1200R Classic vs Ducati 1098s
I wouldn't normally post this but today in the suburbs of London, a Ducati 1098s pulled up at the lights alongside me and was revving for a blast off - so as soon as they went green I let rip (hard throttle - not the f*rt kind) and he could not pull away from me. Rather surprised myself how fast these little gems of a bike are. I have a 2011 Classic with Akro. I don't condone this sort of road racing but the conditions were clear and safe and onto a dual carriageway and I tailed off at 70(ish)

Good for you
Never drag-raced off the lights with another bike, but I love it when cars pull up alongside looking for a blast off, never had one beat me yet

Nice thing about the 12R is the even grunt of the big twin.
Not radical like a high rev I4, but with a similar end result.

Since you stated you don't condone that sort of reckless abandonment of public safety and Laws it makes it OK.
It's always fun to surprise unsuspecting challengers for some occasional manly fun on a BMW Boxer, though last week I did get spanked by a ZX-14 on the highway, but the "race" started at about 80mph and I had my bags on, in my defense.
Racing a 12R... how out of character.

Keep in mind the Ducati is geared much higher since it's intended use is the race track. It would make since for them to lose some ground in the beginning.

The guy on the 1098S must've been a totally incompetent rider.
Under normal condition a 1098S will smoke the R1200R like it's standing still.

The later 2011 R1200R has a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds and the 1098S of just under 2.9 seconds. That's hardly smoke difference
Anyway - regardless, it was an interesting little experiment

Are you kidding??? That is a HUGE difference!jrvip1 wrote:The later 2011 R1200R has a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds and the 1098S of just under 2.9 seconds. That's hardly smoke difference![]()
Trust me on this, given identical riders, there is no way, no freakin way that a R1200R keeps up with a 1098S. Either you are a very skilled rider or the Duc rider was highly incompetent, or a combination of both. I would just take it as a compliment and run.jrvip1 wrote:Anyway - regardless, it was an interesting little experiment

I've got a Ducati Diavel as well as my 09 1200R and the BM would look like it was reversing if I could race the 2
