new owner -- 2004 R1150R

Bought my bike last night. A 2004 R1150R with ABS and a Corbin seat. Has the hard bags too (although the pop-metal "fingers" that lock the bag down are broken on one case -- hope that is not a hard fix? I'll find a fiche file and see what the part is...). Came with the sport and the BMW Touring screen.

It pulls like a train, and is far more flick-able and centered than I would have thought. Love the seating posture -- although bar-backs might be in the future after I ride it a few hundred and see what that feels like.

The PO put about 1500 miles on it in the last 3 years, and it feels like it. Pulling hard out of first and second it feels like the bike is shaking apart, but if I flick it up into third and fourth it smooths out...

First thing is flush all the fluids, and from reading this site balance the throttle bodies and hope that smooths that shake rattle and roll out. f4tweet gave me a lead on a god local mechanic, which I am very happy about. Without that I was stuck at a place called Honda of Hollywood, and their rep on-line is not the best. So thanks f4tweet -- I'll let you know how it works out.

In the future is a top-case, and then who knows. I have never had a bike this nice before and I love the thing already.

I plan on doing my own regualr oil / valves/ etc but am taking it to a shop this weekend to have it gone over, as I don't know the bike well enough to trust myself spotting a crucial issue.

Don't forget to check the plastic ties behind the headlight. some need to removed. You can find the info on this site. Enjoy the bike.

I have not checked the ties, but in the service records I saw that the quick-connects have already been replaced (one started to leak in 06 when the bike was 2 years old.)

I'm hoping BMW phased that little part out of future line-ups?

Congrats. My wife wants another Roadster, preferably in silver, and you got the only one recently listed for sale on the west coast. We looked it over via CL ad.

That's also a very trick Corbin seat (assuming we're talking about the same bike), as I've never seen one quite like it for the R1150R. I had a regular Corbin on one of our R1150Rs, great for two-up riding.

It does indeed have a Corbin seat -- not sure how it is trick, as I have never seen a Corbin up-close before. I do know it fits like a saddle -- very comfortable. Dropping the bike off in the Am to have it gone over.

Went and bought a new helmet this AM -- a Shoei RF1100 to replace my ten year old???!?!? Shoei RF100. The new one stinks like plastic but I'll cure that soon enough, but it is very quiet. Taking it for a long ride in the am to the shop and see how it feels.

One of my system cases has a broken latch, and from this site I know I need a multi-function box. I'll see what the mechanic has to say, and maybe post for a wrecked bag (with an unbroken latch) and see if anyone has one taking up space.

It's been an expensive couple weeks.

Cool deal, mines a 04 Silver. Forget the top case and get a waterproof duffel bag and Rock straps, best way to go. Add a tank bag for your wallet and day to day stuff, Twisted Throttle (Bags Connection) with the ring on the tank fill works best. Look here, this one works great for me, doesn't touch the tank at all so no scratching.

I use a Haynes Manual for the oilheads, but there are others that are very good. You'll enjoy DIY service with one, and save some money, also.
