So, what did you for your 12R today?

in answer to your 3 questions 1- it is for sale and has been 2- you must do the research on your own- i"ll not spoon feed you 3- maybe the same way you took the antenna ring failures serious?, or perhaps you did'nt. I'll pass on any japanese bike although they are reliable as a 200 yr old anvil with better re-sale value.

Re: So, what did you for your 12R today?
I finally parked the bike after a week on it.. 1700 miles later. Nothing broke besides one of my eyes (another story..) The leak I was concerned with isn't leaking, dry as a desert. Used no oil at all. Worked flawlessly except once I stalled it starting on an uphill incline (damn these things are geared tall in 1st..) and it seems like it fouled a plug for a moment since it idled rough then and wanted to stall again. Taking it up to 5,000 RPM with some vigor seemed to clear that right up.
My tankbag is starting to give out - RKA one. The zippers are not aging well. It has about the same mileage as the bike on it - 58,000 now, so it's not unexpected. Lots of zipping and lots of sunlight will do that. Haven't decided what's going to replace it, I like the functionality of the RKA bag, but David Brick's photo in the tank bag thread reminded me of how well the R1150RS bag I first used on the bike fit. I do seem to recall I changed because it was actually too tall, and blocked part of my view of the instruments (I'm short, and my seat is a low seat.. might not be an issue to someone abnormally high like David..
)
After 1,700 miles, I'm on it again tomorrow morning.. Our club has a breakfast meeting, then I might try to convince some people to ride with me across the state to Philadelphia to the Simeone museum (great race car museum just outside Philly airport) - they have a motorcycle exhibit going again.
BTW - I think I have uncleBS turned off, so I can't see to comment directly on his post about his ABS servo.. but FWIW, there have been a few reported failures of the linked-servo system the '07 and newer bikes use on the BMW-MOA forum. Luckily, a company now offers to repair them for $150. Turns out the brushes wear out on the motor. Dunno what factor/action turns the motor on to wear out the brushes, it may be something rider specific (like using the rear brake with the front brake - I know on mine that can cause the motor to run, it can be felt in the pedal for the rear brake..) or perhaps just a batch of too soft brushes made it into some of the units. Whatever - it's not horribly expensive to repair. People who have had them repaired report they work fine, and the service was done in a timely manner.

Re: So, what did you for your 12R today?
I'm going to give it bath, change the oil and give it a good eyeball. Just got back from a 1400 mile round trip from Buffalo NY to Mt Washington NH. I stopped in at Max Bmw for a nice long demo of a K1300S, even tho I love the power and the suspension, I don't think I could get used to the lack of air on my body to keep me cool, and the weight on my wrists is just a little too much. If BMW offered the K1300R here in the states i would pony up asap.
ASK WHY

Here is the info on the ABS module repair: http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=60685 - $150, and feedback I've seen from people who had it done has all been positive.

BTW, how much did your insurance go up? Even at over 50, mine would have tripled in price.M249Joe wrote:So, what did you for your 12R today?
